I guess it just means more LS1s on the market to stuff into unsuspecting Japanese cars.

Edit: Does this mean that there are less 05's then predicted to be made?

I like the motor and the interior is awesome, but Pontiac has been using that cliche split upper black grill for what 30 years now? That's rediculous. Right now every single Pontiac car has it. If Pontiac wants to stay in business, they need to fire the entire design team and start fresh. I was watching some show on the making of the new GTOs and someone asked that question, "with all the possibilities with designing the new GTO, why did they settle on that look?" The answer from Pontaic was shocking, "because that's all we could do." All they could do? With all of the endless possibilities they settled on a 30 year old design, not just for that car, but for every single one.

actually they didn't have much control at all. It's a rebadged holden monaro and it's a basically trial run - what do you want? It wasn't a design from the ground up, so there was far from endless possibilities. They were given this:

http://www.williams-adams.co.nz/holden-section/holden-images/monaronew.jpg

and told to make it look like a pontiac. Can you blame them for going with the "standard pontiac" front end? Compare that car with a gto, you'll see other than the nose there's pretty much nothing different on the exterior.

yeah i'm bored with all the pontiacs looking the same too, but as far as the gto is concerned, I think it came out great. The fact of the matter is, the less control pontiac had, the less they could screw it up. That's why the interior is nice, and the lines of the exterior are clean and not gaudy. I'd much rather what a lot of people refer to as boring and cookie cutter than something with 4000 hood scoops and an interior that shares 90% of it's materials with toddler's toys. With the exception of the look of the car from the front, the gto is nothing like my 2000 grand prix gtp, and that's a really good thing. And honestly, I wasn't sold on it until i sat it in and drove it either. I never hated the styling from the get go, but i wasn't excited about it, that's for sure.

Of course i'm biased, I own an 04 gto. But I can honestly say it is really the only brand new gm car right now i'd even want in it's price range or lower.

i dont see what the gripe is with the way the GTO looks. If people would sit back and think about it, the first GTO was based off another car in pontiacs line...i believe a grand prix was around then too and it looked damn close. just a bigger engined sedan was all the GTO was. still is, thus it follows its heritage. not the fastest car, but definitely faster than most. looks good, sleeperesque too. enough said.

I don't hate the GTO per say, it's just starting to get to me how Pontiac is using the same grill design for every single car. I think it got officially old after the Grand Prix Wide Bodies in like '99. That was about the 25 year mark. Even the Solstice has it. Off the top of my head I think only the F-Body didn't have it over the last 10 years or so. I just feel that with all of the technology and resources available to Pontiac, they could muster up something new for a change. I mean, the front end is what you tend to look at first and if it resembles a 30 year old car than it takes away from the concept of a 'new car' like the GTO. The first time I saw it I said, "looks like a Grand Am" and you know what, so did many other people too. Same with the G6. Cool roof thing, decent lines, good numbers, but that annoying split upper black mesh Grand Am grill. Looked great on Richard Petty's car...............in 1982.

they have had the twin grill forever, actually more like 44 years instead of 30, but as far as the current look goes, It really doesn't date back past the 92-93 grand am, and even that comparison is pushing it. Granted that's 12-13 years old, but you make it sound like the pontiacs today look like a pontiac from the mid 70's and that's ludicrous.

And I think pontiac does realize that people might be a little bored with the same old same old, because there already is an alternative grille for the gto from pontiac, not to mention a different nose, rear bumper cover, wing and side gfx
http://www.pontiac.com/gto/images/bg_image20.jpg Dealer installed option for the 05 cars. And of course the 05's getting the ram air hood standard.

Also for the record, the sunfire never has, and still does not have the typical pontiac front end. The brand recognition is still there though, just as it was for the 98-02 firebirds which had the dual nostrils as well.

While i agree the styling needs some tweaking, I don't think the cars look bad, and I think it would be dumb to outright abandon the twin grille look after so long. It every bit as much defines the pontiac brand as does the red arrow graphic, or the bowtie for chevy. Or the popup headlights for the corvette. oh wait  Look at dodge, bmw, buick, jaguar, volvo, chrysler, etc. etc, etc. They all do it, love it or hate it.

I think they made great changes from '04 to '05 in the styling. I don't hate the cars, I'm just hungry for something new. Oh who the hell am I kidding, I just want my Firebird back

like i said in the above post, i don't really like any other new GM car than the GTO, at least that i could afford, so that says a lot in itself. Â*Even in **** that I couldn't afford, I'd probably only really look at the CTS-V honestly. Â*

I do like some of what they're doing with the trucks, but none of them stand out from the DC or Ford offerings either really.
