Well....as some of u know...my engine is making some funny noises now, but thinkin about it, i have 2 choices, tear apart my motor, buy new heads and a cam/lifter set, but it has 86k miles on it,(hard miles)......or..........i can get a brand new 502 crate motor for fairly cheap, i dont actually have all the money to buy the crate motor but if needed i can get it....the 502 would be nice but then what to do with the throttle body...can i make it work...i dunno, i really dont want a carb and cant afford aftermarket injection......what does everyone think ????
i thought they came out with a fi 502 crate motor?
will a big-block intake manifold fit on a 502?? only difference is bore and stroke right? the induction should be the same

It should work, but you may not get the full potential of a 502. You may need to port or bore the T/B and definately gonna need new injectors.

They do make an FI 502 crate motor. If you're only getting the long block you need to do some homework on intake compatability with your 454. It should fit as long as both motors are standard deck heads. Also with big blocks you need to check intake port shape and size. You'll also need to do the math for a/f volume output from your intake and required supply for the 502.

The motor Matt is looking at is the ZZ502 (http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfpartsjsp/partdetail.jsp?cat=9274&sku=12496962§ion=Crate%).
He has a chance to get it brand new for far less than original cost....

i suggest getting the 502 and in his free time to tear down the 454 to see what needs to be replaced...its always nice to have a backup motor.

There are 2 502's, the ZZ and the HO, 502hp vs 450hp, either one is pretty sweet for the price you're getting it at. I don't know about 500hp but the 450hp should be douable with the TBI. Get yourself an external fuel pressure regulator and bump the pressure up to 25psi with your current injectors. Port the TBI, add a simple cheap injector pod spacer and shave the throttle shaft down to get a bit more air flow. If you don't like it there's always the carb option and keep the electronic spark control.
