Hi everyone,
This is my first post, so I figured I'd make it a good one. My brother who has a 2003 Mustang has never been able to drive my 1997 30th Anniversary Z28 since I put 3.73 gears on it last May. So I let him take it out with me, and of course he runs into one of his old classmates who has a brand new 2005 GTO. After a small amount of small talk, the light turns green and we both wait until we're on the straight part of Route 522 and go for it. We totally kicked the crap out of the GTO and he never pulled on us until about 80, then he missed his 3-4 shift went back into second barked the tires and gave up. We pulled up at another light later when we were going to turn (he was going straight), and "he said, you caught me off guard." Shouldn't he be able to kick our butt caught off guard or not? Like I said he never pulled on us. Below are the mods the car has done. I want to get people's input on this and I hope to see you all tomorrow at Fudd's.

no reason it shouldn't. teh great equalizer is that he had a stick car. most people can't drive stick worth ****, even if they think they can.

Yea, if he knew how to drive stick, he would have killed you. I've seen them dip into the 12's bone stock.

Proabably, If the GTO launches anything like the F-body, the LT1 usally has a slight advantage out of the hole until the LS1 gets it's tires planted then the LS1's top end power lets them pull past. Â*
Â*So race him for money, ( and show up with Cliff B's 97 30th) :D

ive seen stock 6 speed Gtos run 13.5 so with u running 13.5 and him not being that great of a stick driver i dont see why it shouldnt of been like it was. if he could drive and knew u were going he prolly would of beaten you.
who cares about et...you're trapping 105mph...methinks thats good enough for you to dip into the 12s

the new gto's probably trap 108-109 so if he hit the 3-4 shift he probably wouldve pulled like a car that traps that mph...i can run neck/neck with most mid to high 13 second cars till they hit 50-60mph or so where they start pulling me hard.

There was a few GTO's at the High Performance Pontiac show at Englishtown last month. They weren't running all that well. A lot of these guys were just letting out the clutch and basically spinning their tires through their entire first gear. If you are a good driver and have some good sticky tires on your car, you should definatly be able to keep up if not take a GTO.
By the numbers a stock ls1 car should kick my ass but I have not had a problem with any of them that I have come across.

05's are ls2...340-350 to the wheels...heavy but still can boogy at the top end.

Trust me, I know the new ones are ls2's, I've been wanting one. I wonder if they are gonna come out with a Judge...
I was just giving an example comparing my LT1 vs. an LS1. My car has an estimated hp of about 310-315 at the crank and those puppies have close to 350 at the crank. I should get my ass kicked every time but its not always so.
I won't mention the Evo that pulled at least a car length on me about a month ago. Damn those things are fast....

Ok, now that the last 3 posts were all basicy the same thing...
Could you beat a 05 GTO? Yeah sure if he sucks at driving. GTO is priced higher then your average affordable performance cars, such as used Fbodies, so they will be attracting a different type of people.
If the GTO had a good driver, then it would be abit harder. 05's can run mid 12's with a good driver. Thats 400hp going through a IRS set up with skinny 245's....wow, never thought Id say 245's are skinny.
Run him again, and see what happens.

amazing how history repeats itself... anyone remember "two lane blacktop"? if he missed the 3-4 shift, then that tells you his skill level as a driver. even if he is a good driver, let's say for argument's sake, and he just loses it under pressure like in a street race... you still should not be able to take him.
