Well on friday my buddy asked me to race his 95 Camaro V6 A4 for him down at the track. Im going to go over the car on friday just to make sure everything is tightened down, and what not, and see what i can remove so i can get some better times out of it. I will most likely remove rear seats, spare tire, jack, his stereo equipment, and whatever else i can find that will slow him down. The thing has a cat back on it, and a K&N intake. Other than that do any of you have any ideas to boost a little more out of the car? Thanks for any input. Later

engine swap  3.4's are complete dogs...really the weight loss thing is a good idea...i set of used DR's would probably be a good idea if you can find someone to loan you a set.

stickers. lots of stickers.
With spending any money or not? Without spending money I can only think of weight reduction.

yeah the thing is pretty slow, however he just wants to go for fun. He really doesnt care about the time, just had fun last time he went down with me and decided to see what his can do. I have a set of 15" DR's however have not had luck finding 15" rims that will fit the Fbody. If you know of any 15" rims that will fit let me know cause i will mount them up before we leave. I cant say for sure if he will want to spend money being he just got back from college today, but a little money may not be too bad. Besides ill be doing the work and wont be out of here till thursday, so i wont have much time to work before friday. Thanks for the input guys!

If he has rear drums you can prolly toss a set of 3rd gen wheels on it with no problem...they'll stick out, but it will work.

you can also pull the serp belt for a couple of runs.

Don't forget the normal tricks:
Air up the front tires up to 40 PSI, air down the back down to 28,
Empty the washer tank.
Maybe put some high octane in it, if he doesn;t normally run that. Also try to get down below 1/2 tank of gas.
Remove floor mat ( more to ensure you go 100% throttle them weight saving ).

Thanks guys, ill make sure this stuff is done. Any idea to what these things usually run stock? I dont want him to be too disappointed...
my buddy mark(bluebird94?) took his 94 3.4 auto w/ fiberglass hood to a 16.7 @ 79 i believe...that was with a catback and a 2.3 60'

wrong. that will hurt the car's performance. the 3.4's are mapped for 87 octane fuel. putting in 91-93 octane gas will cause the fuel to be burned incompletely, since the octane is there to slow down the combustion process. this results in unburned fuel, and lower performance.
weight reduction is the key. passenger seat, rear seats, spare and jack, a 1/4 tank of gas, and any other minor things will help shave off some time. remember, 100 lbs. removed = .1 off the E/T.
EDIT: also, you should be able to launch at a slightly higher RPM, due to less power coming from the engine. I launched my 3.8 V6 at 1500 RPMs, the 3.4 should be able to go higher than that on the stall. get a good launch, and a good 60', and the E/T will take care of itself.

Alrighty, im just gonna go down and see what i can do with it. I told him i wasnt sure what it would run, but there is only one way to find out. I have driven it before, and am not too sure how it will do. I will post up once i get home that night. I love it how my car is not ready to be run yet, but everyone else keeps letting me race their cars! Too bad everyone who is letting me do it either has a factory defective car, or its a stock 6 banger

Unless the car has some issues, a low 17 should be the slowest you would see. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

nah, he can hit high 16's if the launch goes well.

It cant be as bad as my buddys 94 Stang GT Convertible. Car has a World Class T-5 Trans, King Cobra Clutch, BBK Headers, Full exhaust (NO Cats) Edelbrock Throttle body, Cold air intake, and Short Throw Shifter. The Cars best time ever was with me behind the wheel and went as follows:
R/T Â* .249
60' Â* Â*2.712
330' Â*7.198
1/8 Â* 10.701 @ 68.22
990' Â*13.689
1/4 Â* 16.327 @ 87.98
Car would not go faster than that. Come to find out the car was an automatic and the nimrod who owned it before him never changed the gears, there were some other problems too, but that was the fastest that car ever went. My buddy who owned the car then got the bright idea to put slicks on the car, he didnt listen to me and i told him the car would go slower...sure enough 17's it was!
The clutch was not adjusted right, the shifter mechanism was messed up and caused me to not be able to shift to third (The car crossed the line in 3rd) otherwise i would have been in the 15's
Thank god that car is LOOOONG gone now!
Jon
Edit: Track conditions were 92* with 100 % humidity, i got cooked in the staging lanes! This run was at 9:34 PM too! Date: May 8 2004
thats pretty typical. All mustangs run 16's. . Hell, even mine with a HUGE vacuum leak ran 15.2 in the hands of the previous owner. Onve I get all the motor work squared away, I plan of breaking that record 8)
my 95 convertible went 17.0........full weight and borla catback

I left out an 'S' .....post updated. Besides, I would expect 16's if the beat-ass 3.1 Lumina can hit 17.4's :D
