holy **** does this thing move.

its an experience to have my headers sealed for once. not hearing a tick while driving.

with the stock 5.0 prom...my 350 at half throttle seems to move faster than my 305 as WOT. i cant go past half right now, lack of tunage...hahaha.

i do have a problem though...the AFPR is all the way tight...she wont idle without it. thats a problem.

haha, I can't wait for that no-tick sound on mine as well. congrats though, keep us updated how she runs when fully tuned 8)

well luck isnt on my side.

the computer liked the stock 5.0 prom for the time...my teacher at school had never set base timing...so jon (fasterthanyou) and i tried to...but failed due to lack of access to things.

hes an awesome guy...he will try to be back tomorrow for me..my f-ing starter took a ****. so tomorrow i will get a new one and what not...hopefully everything goes alright.

Hey I have a stock starter sitting in my garage if you want it for like $15. Also if you need the tools to set base timing I have a light and a distributor wrench. Not sure where you're located though.

</hijack.>

Distributor wrench??? No wonder I can't remove that $%$#@#! bolt and clamp! That thing has pissed me off for two weeks now. Nothing fits in that tight space.

Are they specialty tools found only on websites? Or would an AutoZone have something like that?

AutoZone should have them. It's usually a 2 wrench set. Probably less than $10.

Are you using the original 305 injectors? If so, the 19lb. injectors really can't feed a 350. You need like 24s (I think that's what it is).

to answer everyones questions

Fuel pressure was set at 42...it wasnt cranked all the way down...we cranked it to 48 to start tuning.

the injectors are 24# SVOs...im not stupid enough to put 19# ones in.

i got a new starter for free...i got one from advance for 30 bucks (teacher's discount) and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

base timing is now set...Jon is on his way...we set it at 8 degrees advance, a stock L98 calls for 6, but we called a chevy dealership and they said set it at 8. so we did.

for anyone that cares...the starter's nose cone was completely blown in half...dont know how it happened...must have had an undetectable crack to begin with.

new problem: my speedo cable sheered itself off (lack of support, i lost the nut that holds it in)...a new one will be here tomorrow.

im gonna be cuttin this close.

Ehhh you don't need a speedo that works for one night. Just have John get it running for you. My guess is he'll start with the ARAP .bin and work from there.

:stupid: just stay with the flow of traffic

IROCdan330
05-25-2005, 03:14 PM
i may not need it for one night...but i am a tad impatient when it comes to traffic...if someone isnt doing the speed limit how am i gonna know? im not used to the speed of this vehicle yet with the new gears vs. rpm deal like i could do in my 305. also...i dont know if at inspection they will fail me for it.

he tried the ARAP bin last night...but the timing was so screwy we couldnt do anything.

if ur not used to the powr of the 350 ur better off doin the speed limit or slower

i wouldnt be goin WOT with it...i can go half throttle and still pass people. and power vs actual speed is completely different...my speedo is off due to wrong speedo gears...so i cant base my rpms off of the speed of the vehicle l;ike i could with the 305...meaning...50 would be like 2200 or so in my 305...i dont know what it would be with the new 350 and 3.42s and i cant know, because the speedo is wrong. i need the cable in so i can get a rough estimate.

im pissed...my tranny is shot...slips between the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift. Â*Jon tuned it pretty well for right now, but the whole tranny is ****ed.

don't worry about the fuel pressure right now. a lot of that will likely be cleared up with tuning.
did you throw higher volume injectors or fuel pump in?

the fuel pump is stock i dont think i need a bigger one i dont plan on making 400 horsepower. not yet. the injectors are 24# ones...the FP is 48 psi with no vacuum so around 42 with it. Jon turned the 24s into 26s with his tuning knowledge. its running good but the transmission is the problem now.

Yesterday we got lucky with weather, and crap for parts. Dizzy was a tooth off which kind of pissed me off since I NEED to know the base timing to get the car running safely. Tonight we were unlucky with the weather but the car starts and idles damn good. The transmission is pretty shot seeing as it's slipping in each geary pretty bad. It was only down a quart of fluid but it didn't help that the TV cable was fubar. The TV cable sleeve was pulling completely out of the holder! The quick fix was the creative idea of Dan's teacher. He came over with hose clamps and put on on the back side of the cable to keep it from pulling through. This will work for a WHILE so long as it never pulls out (gotta keep tabs on it).
The slipping is so bad that it was an idle and cruising only tune. Just enough to get him around and break the engine in properly.
The ARAP was the start but we had idle issues. DUH, teacher came to the rescue again when he noticed the min idle hadn't been set yet! Set, restart, computer relearned the idle and brought it down but now all my little "fixers" were causing a sligh surge in RPM. Something that's good for passing inspection but not desierable. We'll fix that soon enough at atco when the transmission gets fixed. The car feels strong, almost as strong if not stronger than Paul's :P . I think it'll be a good race between em although Paul's with a SD tune will walk away with the win. Which reminds me, Paul, give me a shout sometime tomorrow or this weekend.
The only ? in my mind about Dan's tune is the 142 idle BLM which it apparently loves. It's really odd and hard to diagnose when your emulator and scanner don't work at the same time  . I should have brought my other laptop with Diacom, oh well.
Also, it helps to unplug the cold start injector when using $6E code

Low Blow Jon! Low Blow! Check your PM's about tuning my car. I'm telling you if I convert to this Australian SD code and the car isn't faster I might just kick you in the nutz.
