Engine and trans are out and now it's time to get to the cleaning. Still haven't ordered the transmission parts yet :oops: . The engine will get cleaned and painted either tomorrow but more than likely Monday when I have a chance to pick up some good paint. I don't know how this is going to work out but I need to finalize my paint scheme. Anybody think I should leave the aluminum intake and water pump bare aluminum? I kind of want to go for that stock appearance and black it all out. It's not like this engine is a horsepower beast... yet. Cam swap, maybe even some head porting? Any opinions? Yes I want the car back on the road but I'm gunning for high 12's so the cam swap is looking crucial.
Trans rebuilding is going to be the real challenge. Well that and finding an aluminum driveshaft to replace this vibrashaft (reframing from making an obvious sex joke).
Any cam opinions? How about opinions on the paint scheme

LPE's 219 Cam is a pretty popular cam and makes good streetable power.

Yeah, his stuff seems decent enough. How many 400+hp n/a 350's are runing around with that cam?

since you have a roller block i would suggest one of teh comp cams extreme energy rollers. XR288HR looks good :)
are you cutting the spring pockets to clear bigger springs or did you find a way around that?

Beehive springs are more costly but not when you don't have to get machine work done :) .

sweet, how far can you go with them?
the XR288HR is 520/540 i think, 236/242 @ .050 on a 110lsa (from memory, may nto be exactly right)
should make a nice broad power band with those heads, something you can shift around 6K rpm.

OK, I know the I'm talking from an LT1 motor, but I had the Lingenfelter 211/219 cam in my LT1 and although it was a good street cam it lacked top end power. Cars with less head work and the 305 cam where making more power above 5000RPMs then I was.

I'll look for the dyno sheet, the motor pulled hard to 5300 then fell way off.

If your looking for low RPM power the 211/219 or 219/219 ( automatic ) is a good cam, but if you want to race I'd go with something different.

My best was 13.0 at 109mph with a 2.2 60' shifting @ 5700RPMs

Well here's the plan; I've got a stock Lt1 cam for emissions and an experimental RMT (if I've got time) and I want something to swap in that'll have a noticable lope at idle and get me my best ET. As it stands, the 2800 stall converter should be plenty for anything with less than 240*@0.050 and since I'm going with the roller cam I probably won't need that much duration to let the engine breath. I'm looking for a cam with a very aggressive ramp rate. With the beehive springs I shouldn't have to worry about wearing or the float... so maybe I should look into a custom.
Since these vortec heads ARE still based on the sbc there is no way I'm going to run a single pattern cam. Dual pattern is a must because these exhaust ports are pathetic. From running some iterations with desktop dyno 2003 it looks like a high ramp ratio with a 274/288 adv. 114 ls and .540/.540 lift would work out perfect with untouched heads. I can't find a cam with that large of a split on the duration. Most are like 4-8 split where as I need 14-20... :? . I think I'm going to go custom since with ported heads desktop dyno is telling me 264/284 on a 112.5 ls. That's with the aggressive ramp rate. If somebody knows of a cam with similar specs please let me know. Oh, and I'm going for low lift, .510 max seeing as these are 23 degree heads. What's more important isn't the lift height, but how much lift is under the curve (ramp rate).
