What does it necessarily say? I clicked a link that a friend sent me, looked suspicious, was a .pif file... and now my computer shuts off randomnly. Most of the time I'm good at these things but I am clueless. Now I might have to do about 5 gigs of backing up and I might have to format :-/

That could be a variation of it - ask your friend if he has the virus, and try Jay Loden's AimFix: http://www.jayloden.com/aimfix.htm

If that doesn't work try your current anti-virus.

yes, a .pif can be executed with just a click. anything ending in .com, .bat, .scr, .exe, etc... can be executed with a click, look at the URL of anything anyone sends you. theres one going around that the text appears to be a link to a ebaumsworld video, but if you move mouse over the link or right click, "show hyperlink", then you'll see it's really a fake link and points to a virus download.

Well its gone with a fresh format  I needed it anyway cuz I'd be playing games and my comp would just shut off and reboot. And it was an AOL virus, I asked him and he confirmed it.
