So like an idiot, I yank the distributor without noting what direction the hookups face. I know you have to kinda screw it in inna way because of the screw / gear end of the stem. But what direction should the harness hook-ups face? Face towards the back of the car? Driver side? Passenger side?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

More towards the driver's side than anything else - but make sure that everything is lined up, otherwise it won't run worth crap.

Did you mark where the rotor was pointing? When you reinstall the distributor you start with the rotor facing about 10/15 degrees behind/counter clockwise of where it needs to be. As the distributor moves down it will engage the cam and you turn the rotor clockwise.

You must make sure the rotor is oriented properly and that the distributor is completely engaged into the oil pump drive. You can then turn the outer casing to where the distributor connections should be and the cap should only go on one way.
