UPS left it in the back of my house, leaning up against the deck, at 10:15 (i was in teh shower)
Looks liek they dropped it, the corners are bent in and ****ed up
I called to file a claim with them, they took my name and everything then went and said that someone would pick it up by the end of the day tomorrow and they would send it back to the shipper and i'd have to take up the problem with him, but if thats the case (if theres no insurance, which i think there is... they said a few times to him they wouldnt ship it unless it was packed better cuz theyd have to replace it if it was damaged) then ill just say **** it and try to beat this out with a hammer or something. I haven't paid him yet, and he only asked for $25 to cover the shipping or part of it.

do not - under any circumstances - accept that hood. UPS or the guy who shipped it are responsible for it.
another thought: no wonder they "dropped" it off and ran away... effin UPS guys think they can do whatever they want. they tried that **** here once or twice, then i started waiting outside for them. with the tracking information they have available on the website you can at least get it down to which part of the day they are likely to "drop" by. then you have to start telling the people you buy stuff from that a signature is mandatory.
p.s. i know how it feels to order something like that and wait on it only to have it delivered damaged. that sucks the big hairy donkey dick, man.

Wow what a let down. I think without specific insurance, all UPS packages are covered up to $100. If the item shipped is more expensive than that, more insurance is needed. Of course the shipper could just put $0 in the value field and ship it without insurance.
Definately send it bak even though it means waiting longer. There's just no substitute for undamed, unblemished items.

The only thing preventing me - well things preventing me are..
1) the condition of my current hood
2) the fact that I have paid $0, and all the guy wants is $25 to cover some of shipping (he got an SS hood, had the stocker lying around).... makes me wonder if its worth it to just sorta bang it back
Jim, I wouldn't have accepted it if I had been there when it was dropped off, but they convienently did it right as I was in the shower.
Gonna see what my dad thinks of it when he gets home, and i'm waiting for the guy i got it from to get my message and call me about this.

I usually put my work address in for the shipping address. If I'm not there to sign for it and inspect it, someone else will.
I friggin hate it when (I wont say names but it rymes with "Red tex") devivers to my house, and if I'm not home I need to go to the terminal to pick it up. I mean, I come home to a 300 dollar part sitting at my door, but a 70 dollar jacket I bought on clearance is such a high quality item that I need to sign for it. Then what the hell did I pay shipping for if I'm gonna go pick it up anyways.

i gotcha. what i am saying now is, do not accept their explanation that it was damaged by the guy you got it from, wasn't wrapped correctly or whatever weasel explanation they're gonna try. stick with it and at least get them to pay whatever the hood is worth.
since you got the hood for the price of shipping, it's not like you can return it to the guy who sent it and demand your money back. but stick it to UPS - they deserve it for the stupid **** they try to pull all of the time. and it was that driver's lucky break that you were in the shower.

Talked with the guy today, he's at the shop he works at (or goes to a lot... w/e). He said as soon as the shop owner gets in hes gonna find out about making the shipping insurance claim, cuz they did get it. Told me one time they had to file a claim cuz one of the UPS bastards actually opened the box to steal parts or something. So I'll get the money out of this... How much can I find a LT1 SS hood for?

GM parts direct has the hood for $424.01, but it says "you save" $294.66. Those added equal about $720, so that is what I am putting in for the hood's total value. But another field is "cost to repair or replace" (I put that it's nor repairable), not sure what to put there...
Was searching around and found this (http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=10107)... hm (notice that site also has new stock hoods for $704).
Doing the rest of the shipping insurance crap tomorrow, well hopefully that'll be it

I think that generalization goes a little too far. Most UPS deliveries arrive on time, and in good condition. Sometimes however the heaviest deliveries arrive sligtly damaged (at least the boxes do) because they expect the driver alone to haul those things from the back of the truck and up to your door. It's not an easy job.
I don't work for UPS, and never have. However I've heard plenty of good things about the company - working for them - and have had three or four issues I needed to deal with them about. All of them were dealt with in satisfaction. Unfortunately all of us are likely to have shipping problems from time to time no matter who is used.
Always opt for the extra insurance and dont be shy about confronting the shipping companies about damage.
