As the title says, I need to take my engine (or maybe two) to a machine shop for prep and possibly a shortblock assembly ... Anyone know of a reputable shop around?
I live in Toms River, but I'm willing to drive.
The block(s) needs to be bored, decked, etc. However, I don't need the block sonic tested or anything of that nature.
They are both big blocks, if that matters any.
Anyone know of a shop or a have a suggestion?

Had my engine rebuilt and a swap this next week.
I agree with dave although I've had work done at south side auto in Manville, and I was COMPLETELY satisfied with the work. I dont know if paul (owner and operator of RPM resto) has full access to a machine shop, he might though.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give RPM a call and see what they say.
My father needs bodywork done on his Camaro also, that we don't have the tools or experience to do.
So hopefully everything works out.
Saint:
Yea, it's the for the Chevelle.
I really do not want to put this engine the car, but the small block isn't cutting it and I dont' have the finances to do what I want to do.
So, I guess this is a long-term, temporary motor. :?:

There is also a place in Keyport called JTL. They are a little hidden but build some nasty engines. The guy has been around for many years. I know about him because Greens Performance Center (732-842-4383) in Red Bank sends all his stuff to him for machine work. That is where my 455 (now 468) is getting done. I also towed a 55 Chevy from there where he built a 600+ cid engine for the guy. 8.75 second "street" car with full(ish) interior!8)

As soon as my father and I figure out our finances we'll drop you a line.
JTFormula:
Thanks for the advice.
When I was 17 (three years ago) I went there looking to get a rearend for my Chevelle and I was not impressed at all.
Between the way the owner went about things and just the overall appearance of the shop, I had a bad vibe.
They came up from North Carolina and it sounded as though they had to leave or close up shop ... not sure why.
I've also had two people I knew from high school take there car there and were not happy, at all.
Thanks for the heads up.

He was not from North Carolina, at least any time recently. "Big Al" had a shop in Neptune City called Best Performance. I would say 1997 or 1998 is when he opened there. He closed shop because of too many people getting ripped off and he got a real bad rep. He opened up shop around the corner behind some starter shop with no sign. He wasn't there too long either. A year later, he opened up Redline Performance in Brick. Scarry stuff!
