Are you a hook or pull person?

Let's say there were 2 identical appearing cars that both ran 13 flat but one was running that 13 with a 1.6 60' & 100mph and the other running a 2.2 60' & 110mph, which do you think is "cooler" or you would want a ride in? Obviously the 110mph car can pull but the other can hook... both cost the same etc.
I know somebody is going to say, "they both run the same time, they're both equally cool..." so don't say that if you're not going to be honest. Everybody is partial either traction or horsepower, which are you?

I said hook. I've sat in the stands too many times and heard people rag on cars that don't look like anything special, but spin off the line.

Unless the car looks like a beast, or puts up an insane mph, people will think you just can't drive well. I'd rather have a car that hooks, and add power as necessary.

hook.....now i know this is ganna sound really gay, but i got a friend that had a 93 civic bubble back and threw a B-16 in it....took it to e-town spun 1st-4th sitting on 14 inchers. Could not get it to grab because it had way too much power and ran 17's :lol:

hook definately.
drag racing is about et, not mph. the car that hooks will also reeact better since it isn't spinning it's way forward. with equal reaction from both drivers teh hook car will win cause it gets out of the lights first.

I'd rather have hook than mph. While I wouldn't ever condone any kind of street racing, I do my fair share of traffic light play, and my car is a beast off the line, which makes it more fun around town. Something that has more top end would be something that I rarely get to use to its fullest extent.

:drive: That's why I like pull. I'm not an all out drag racer so to me it's not about the ET as much as it is getting the most power out of the car. I guess I always thought it was too easy to stick on some big sticky tires and punch the gas to the floor... then I got some power in my car and it's more fun just trying to trap higher through tuning and cutting respectable 60' times on street tread. The later has been more difficult for me. Slapping on slicks and not trapping very fast to me isn't as fun as a driver. Just my view point. Obviously I'd like both but having something that's slippery out of the hole (don't think dirty thoughts don't think dirty thoughts) makes for a lot more fun. It's the same with a manual trans... harder to drive, usually doesn't "hook" as good as an auto but puts down more power to the wheels and usually traps higher speeds.

I kinda hate guys who have cars that run horrible times at ridiculous mph. I know people who run 12's @ 120+mph... Why build a fast car when you cant put it to the ground?

I dont really understand, its not like you cant have hook AND pull at the same time. You take that 13.0 @ 110mph car and make it hook, you now have a low 12 second car. Feels the same on the top end, makes it to the finish line faster.

Id rather a car that hooks, I would just get really pissed off if my car just kept spinning off the line.

The "pull" car is making more horsepower. I'd take pull and put some et streets on her! Plus, if the hook car pulls the front wheels off the ground then runs a 13.xx at 100 mph, it probably has way to much gear. Long story short, the pull car has more potential to be the faster beast and everything being equal (including price) I take the one with more horsepower and find a way to get it to the ground.

You must be a terrible driver if you're worried about a high horsepower rear wheel driver car loosing the jump on a wrong wheel drived civic....
A good driver would know that just a little bit of wheel spin is optimal no matter what the tire is. So for this, it isn't a punch it to the floor and watch the tires smoke. We're talking about having to pedal it out of the hole.

On another note, yes the initial G's from the hook car will put you back in the seat for the first 60' but the higher horsepower car will have more G's from the 60' till the 1/4 mark!

The higher mph car has the potential while the hook car is maxed out. For that reason alone I like the pull car. Also, the pull car tends to break less parts :wink: . Install some sticky tires and get your best ET.
Another reason I like testing my car at the track without hook is to compare it's performance with new cars and other various street machines. I know exactly where I stand when a car pulls up to me on the street. If I'm rolling and I punch it the traction is hardly an issue... just my personal preference.
I guess I should have been more specific with my question :) . Good answers so far :) . It looks like everybody is very partial. I notice the guys that vote hook have slicks on their f-body's or race cars while the pull are the horsepower freaks.

definately pull...i rarely get any stoplight time around here so its always from a roll...and from a 30-70 roll the only thing that suspension/tires does is look pretty

Just because your car won't break the tires loose from 30 doesn't meant that no other cars can.....
