Does anyone find this reminiscent of the fuel crisis of the 70's??? The HP wars were in full swing, tons of killer cars, then the fuel situtation brought everything to a grinding halt..........

Anyone see anything like that going on right now??

The gas crisis in the 70's had nothing to do with the horsepower wars, they were over in 71. It's a supply and demand issue and gas guzzling vehicles with 25-40 gallon tanks(SUV's) don't help. My 88 4Runner has a 16 gallon tank and has been getting 20 mpg so that's pretty darn good for 88 technology. There's gonna be a lot of full size SUV's and pickups for sale real soon. The real problem arises if they have to go to rationing where you can only get gas certain days of the week and you're forced to sit in line.

I just went down to a shell station in my town and it was 2.97 for regular and i was at 1/2 tank in my caprice and it just cost me $55.00  Forget mopeds forget anything that takes gas. Now to get gas for a lawn mower it'll probably cost $15 to cut your grass......Im not beat for this **** anymore.....im walking!!!!!! AND im not cutting the grass either!!!!

in america we've really been spoiled up until now... Â*i'm pretty sure that gas has been this expensive everywhere else in the world for a while, we're just catching up now

this is true, at least in the countries that i have visited.

the gas crunch in the '70s was something to behold. if your license plate ended in an even number, you could get gas on a certain day. if your license plate ended in an odd number, you had to wait a day if you wanted to get gas. it led to people hoarding license plates, or changing them from one vehicle to another. then my dad got a 55 gallon drum from work with a hand pump on the top and filled it with gas, hid it behind the garage. very strange times, they were. i was at best 10 years old, but i vividly remember all of the "tricks" to getting around the gas shortage - and i doubt very much that there was EVER a shortage. i think it would be better to call it lack of production, whether willful or otherwise. we had gas reserves back then, too.

the thing about our gas reserves that i don't understand is why not use them now and wait for the prices to go down, then replenish them at the lower price? guess we have some real idiots at the higher levels of government...

i have also been thinking about a moped or a smaller-engine motorcycle. a moped i could get by on without altering my license, but over a certain cc, i think, you have to get the motorcycle endorsement.

The problem isn't oil supply, it's gasoline production. There aren't enough refineries to handle the demand and any kind of disruption like the hurricance will cause a supply problem in gas.

For the first time, my gas bill for a full tank was over 40 bucks. I remember when I filled up my brothers Avalanch, and it was 56 bucks, and I nearly did a double take.
At what point do Car companies roundhouse gas companies for killing thier sales? This goes to everyone from GM to Toyota, who are both unvailing their new, bigger, stronger, and better picks up and SUV's this year.

are you talking about the 3500 recall? If so, it doesnt apply to my car, and havent gotten anything int he mail about it.
Only recall I had was something about the seat belt holder that could hold up the belt from being retracted or changed the location of how it...whatever it was a 5 min deal and the press feeds off it like it it could end your life.

When I first got my license the camaro was only $10 to fill. That was with 89 octane, it was like $11 or 12 with 94 8) . Ahh the good old days.

Well, most people in Pakistan prefer camels over cars, and their cars get like 60 MPG. Besides, why waste a full tank of gas if your just gonna go suicide bombing?

that's the excuse they're using. i ain't buying it. it's the same game they played in the '70s. oh, we can't keep up with demand! we have to raise the price! there is a gas shortage! ********.

record production the past three years and, like i said, profits in the millions of dollars per day. the hurricane happened at the right time for them. they were probably going to cap the price or lower it a bit, but they happened on a new excuse.

Dam, what's wrong with the LS1 to get that bad of gas mileage? I was averaging 17.5 mpg with my supercharged 93 Pace Car. It would pull down 26-28 mpg on the highway. But majority of my driving is local with never getting above 50 mph. Heck, I was averaging 11.5 mpg with the 454SS pickup.

very large cams, aftermarket heads, higher gearing, large converters...dunno what to tell ya...my drive to work was 2 miles at the time so it was like start the car drive for 10 mins, park the car....then i went home on my lunch and start over again so thats part of it. Your blower car for the most part still ran in vacuum so its as if you didnt even have the blower until you went wot.

80cc is the legal limit. Used to be 50cc but NJ just raised the bar on that one.
You must be at least 15-years-old to obtain a moped license (Class F), but A moped license is not required if you already have a basic driver license, motorcycle license, or commercial driver license.

Anything over 80cc you need a motorcycle endorsement...
