stock 4th gens came with 2.73, 3.23, and 3.42 gears...series 2 3.73s will only work in an originally 2.73 geared car, and series 3 3.73s will only work in numberically 3.x and up originally geared car

there are kits that adapt series 3 gears to a series 2 carrier

is there a part number anywhere? I know someone with a 3 series carrier, and id rather not buy a two series carrier gear set. Knowing what they are would be helpful to your sale...

all i have is the ring and pinion they are not in the original box either. Is there any way by looking at them to tell?

I believe that the ring gear for a 2 series carrier is substantially thicker than normal....

if anyone wants the gears and they are the wrong series and they don't want to buy the carrier, i'll gladly refund you the money.
