i just got pulled over. i was doin 54 in a 25. after the cop took all my docs, she got in her car and walked right back out in less then a minute. while she was walking back to my car she was writing something on her hand. she told me she had another call and that she would send a summons in the mail. can she do that? dont i have the option to plead guilty or not guilty? i hope she forgets or loses the info she wrote down.

i'm not a cop or a lawyer, but it sounds to me like you'll get a ticket in the mail in a couple of days. perfectly legal.
however, from experience, you will have an excellent chance of fighting the ticket. while she may have written down your license plate or something, she will be relying on information in the computer (DMV, presumably) for everything else, including your description.
if she was unable to answer a few questions about where you were stopped, what kind of car you were driving, what color it was, and questions of that type, you can ask for a mistrial or a verdict of not guilty based on the officer's lack of ability to recall the facts of the vehicle stop.
talk with a lawyer about this, he is bound to be able to give you better details than i could.

im not a cop but have a few friends that are and im trying to become one but they have up to 60 or 90 day's to send you one in the mail..whether they or on duty or not they can still send you one... it happened to my friend and i got threatened once for smoking my tires but the cop "didnt have a ticket book with him" needless to say i never got a ticket for that one (thank god)

yes they can mail you the ticket and they gave you the reason. Fight it in court but the way the NJ Ins Surcharge is set up now you will get wacked either way $$$.

she has up to 30 days to write the ticket. as for your info she will not loose it. She most likely called in your plate right before she went on the stop. all your info is stored in the CAD at their dispatcher center or headquarters CAD= Computer Aided Dispatch.

Do whatever you can to fight it....it would be better to get a lawyer because you were double the limit. I just had to pay $386 at court last tuesday because i was doing 80 in a 65. It was a 4 point ticket and i brought a friend of mine thats a lawyer and he got me unsafe driving no points and that fee......sucks but i need a clean license because i got a DPW job and i got 6 months to get a CDL. fight and pay what ever you can.
P.S....in italy when they clock you speeding they don't even come after you they have high speed camaras that snap a pic of the plate and send you the ticket. So thats even more beat than here LOL
was it in piscataway? if so call me

lol no it was a middlesex cop, thanks though. i have a NY liscence so points dont transfer. its just that the fines are a bitch. i paid off 3 tickets last week totalling $400 and i have another $50 on the way. This one is just overkill now. and with the way gas prices are now, its just too much too quick. i guess the only thing i can hope for is that she forgets something or she just takes a long time. another $200+ down the drain. the only thing that ticks me off is that i was following 2 other cars and she singled me out. be it cause i have a sports car, ny plates, or whatever. that just goes to show you that NJ needs to update their speed limits. we're not driving model t's anymore, we can slow down in time for stupid people when we are doing 40 or so. and she was mean as hell.
ps- if this ticket comes, it will be moving violation #17 for me since i got my liscense in July 02

Not proud of this but I have ran from cops & thought I got away only to get a stack of tickets in the mail (ran the plates obviously).

actually i havent cut 2k rpms in the past week (except for the one time with jon). and yes i have slowed down, alot. i appreciate the wise words but that wasnt really my problem. i obviously wasnt driving like a dick cause i was following other cars and i averaged 25+mpg with mostly city driving on the last tank so i definately wasnt pushing it at all. telling someone to slow down who is simply following the flow of traffic is pointless. i'm either gonna get tailgated or just speed up to what others are doing. i know the "everyone else is doing it" excuse doesnt justify anything, but it sure does suck to have to drive speed limit when everyone else is over the limit just because.
****ing cops targeting loud cars...gar...when i get my badge those are the ones that ill let by!

yeah. used to be a misdemeanor but they decided to crack down on the kids doing all of that joyriding. what has the world come to when you can't even run from the cops without risking big jail time anymore?
of course this is said facetiously. i don't really think it would be a safe world with every crackhead running from the cops. although i have done it once or twice in my lifetime, i can see why they have to have a law like this. remember, don't try this at home. we're what you call professionals.
