View Full Version : 4th Gen Window Motor....How Long to Replace?

Ok 4th genners....I have a friend with a Firebird that he needs a new window motor installed in. Is it as easy as pulling the door panel and unbolting the old one and reinstalling or is it buried in the door and require more time than an hour or two?

its riveted in so ur gona have to drill it out

i did it a few months ago. once you get the rivets drilled out, it doesn't take too long. i'd say it probably took me around 2 hours, no more than 2 1/2, but i'm pretty new to cars. if u follow the guide u'll be good.

I used shoebox's tutorial also. It was a no brainer with that. I cant remember how long it took, I'm pretty sure I got it done during a work break, so it wasnt that long.

its rivited in , but if i remember correctly, most aftermarket replacements come with bolt in kits

I did the driver wiondow motor in my 93 TA n it took myb 2 hrs. I rivited it back in cuz when i used the bolts it kept coming loose but its up to u.

Looks just like a 3rd gen assembly :( . It's a royal PITA. It might be easier, if you don't want to drill holes, to remove the whole assembly. It's not hard, but once you have the assembly out you can't just remove the motor and replace. You have to hold it with a c-clamp or vice to keep the counter balance spring from cutting off your arm. This is why doing it in the car might be easier, totally up to you but they both take about the same amount of time only once is more tedious where the other takes more tools.
I'd quote 2-3 hours but that it could take 4.
