hey guys, need some knowledge. my wife has a pt cruiser and it is ****ing slooooooow. i had to do something so i installed a cold air kit and damn it really made a noticable difference, more than when i installed mine! anyways, ive checked high and low and there are no companies that offer pcm tunes for this car so, you know all those stupid inlet air temp sensor resistors on ebay that are advertised "ADD 22HP" OR "GAIN 1/10TH"? well i bought one for the cruiser to put in so my question is. what exactly does this resistor tell the pcm and is it smart to put it in on a permanent basis? does it tell the pcm that the air is colder or does it tell the pcm that there is more air coming in the engine and could there possibly be any engine damaged incurred from using this? i appreciate any help, thanks.

Its just a temp sensor, so it cant tell the pcm anything about the amount of air entering the engine. all it does is fake the computer into seeing a colder intake air temp so it lengthens the injector pulse width. in laymans terms, the engine gets more fuel because it thinks its taking in cooler, denser air. No way in hell are you gonna see 22 HP just by using that. you can leave it in all the ime if you want to, its not going to grenade the motor. But in my opinion, its useless.

if it was, I highly doubt he'd be complaining of a lack of power.

no its not a turbo tho id like to drive the stage 2's. 240 hp in that little thing has gotta turn it into a rocket. she drives the cruiser cuz its decked out in leather, sunroof, all the options for cheap and it looks good. all the stuff women want without consideration for hp! now she complains its too slow and wants me to fix it!

The sensor just makes it run richer. You will probably notice a decrease in gas mileage. IMO not worth it. Its still a ****ing PT Cruiser.

Yo,
Ya might wanna give these guys a holla: http://www.psifimotorsports.com/
They do some uber stuff to Neons/Srt4s, and have built some wild stuff like a Mini with both a turbo AND belt driven supercharger!
They are a good bunch of guys...can be a 'lil hard to get in touch w/, but they might be able to give ya some info for mo' power...

ill give it a shot, the cruiser motor is the same as the neon's. i was thinking that if it even has the same transaxle, i might be able to get some better gears for it to give it some get up and go. its got no torque and its down right scary trying to merge into traffic. the top end is alright tho.
