View Full Version : Can anybody install some gears for me?
Just asking, I got 3.73s for my camaro off mike (9secfirebird) and I need them installed. Ill pay a knowledgable person good money and maybe some pizza + soda if they can install them. Or if anybody knows a place where someone can put them on thatll be great too. Thanks

bring it to TTP... honestly i would never have gears installed by a "backyard mechanic" if they install them wrong your rear will whine horribly and if it blows up theres a good chance some of the gear will blow through that actual rearend housing... theres some important measurements that have to be checked and set during the install

I never really delt with a rearend change, so I wouldnt know how long it takes. Is there any way i can set up some sort of appointment cuz i live on the border of Morris and Warren, and itll be a real PITA to just drop it off and then go back to pick it up.

Defenitly take it to a proven shop to do rear gears. You need special tools that not everyone has.

I'll install them for you... granted 10 bolt will go boom as soon as you tryto move the car but I can bolt em in
I've done gears before and nothing ever let loose on me. the measurements aren't difficult, its setting the pinion depth that can be a pain in the ass. If you go too deep, you have to start over again and get a new crush collar. and you have to check the wear pattern., and the backlash. other than that, its not too hard. I'd do it for you if I was unemployed, but my job takes up most of my daylight hours :? . Plus I have a side project right now that has to get done. 8)
you might as well take it to TTP. I still have yet to hear anything bad about them. Except for when they had Alex waiting over a month for his car, but thats cause its an LT1 and they hate them there

well doing my rear swap this winter did take a rather long time, and the finish date was pushed back a few times for a total of a few weeks more than expected... one time I had even gotten a call that it was finished, I got there and when I was aroudn the corner I got a call back that they screwed something up and it was pushed back again
But for ls1 stuff I hear good things

no, you need a hammer too
it is a better idea to take it to a reputable shop.

you should plan for the future. if you are going for a beast, than i say when you buy the 12 bolt, than have the gears installed at the same time. but if you aren't going to go crazy, than install the gears on the 10 bolt. you don't want to pay for getting the same part done twice.
those 3.73s wont fit in a 12bolt

Richie is good my boss did mine and it came out sweet as hell. He'll set em up for the street or trach or however u want em. I have mine set up as track cuz im hard on the rears. I set two of my rears in the 67 up as street n i blew them up. My mboss n i set em up as track n i never had a problem after that.

2 hour job for me and my dad...... not hard to do at all. the pinion shim and also the carrier shims seem to go with the case, put it back together look at yoru tooth pattern and if its a little off then add/delete shims if need be..... did my rear in my camaro 2.73 changed to a 3.73 posi gears looked brand new even after 3+ years and 10k on them and multiple nitrous launches. njspeeder can attest to it cause he bought them!! jsut take your time and youll be ok.

Just take the shims from the prior gears and itll line up how the others did n ull be fine. just make sure after u take the clips and slide the axles out u hold the pin in in the center so all the spider gears done come out cuz if they do then its bitch to put back.
