View Full Version : What would u get for a daily driver?

Once the winter is over im most likely going to be purchasing a nice daily driver... im going to be saving up over the winter and throwing down 5k as a down payment... and then taking a 3 year loan out.. the question is what to get..

if my bro didnt already have a STI that would be my obvious choice but since he has one already im not going to get the same car...

i could afford a 2002 m3 with around 30-40k miles but i dont want to take that big of a loan out(roughly 32k)

i really like the 04 gto's but im looking for something a bit differnt, i kinda wanna try something else out.... preferiably an import..

im leaning towards and 04 EVO but i know exactly what is going to happend... a few bolt ons, clutch, computer tuning, race gas = another race car and many broken tranny's.

i really like the lexus is... they are awesome, but to slow for me, id end up throwing on wheels and some mods here and there.

03 cobra is another great choice.. simple bolt ons, very streetable and driveable... but then the winter comes and id hate to have to drive it in the snow/salty roads.

s4's are sweet, but i know a ton of people who have them.

there are a ton of nice trucks out there, but after a few months i would just get bored of it.

other cars in my price range are.. bmw 330i,g35,cts etc etc.

so im kinda up in the air... i dunno what would you guys get?

g35's are real nice looking, dont know too much about the performance. i saw a black 350z, with blacked out lights and tan interior looked real nice, the guy was kicking ass through traffic too which made if cooler. they handle real nice too

white looks really good on those cars. My friend has a black one and that looks really good too, but its a bitch to keep clean.

If you need a 4 door, just get a G35X, All Wheel Drive 4-Door.

Personally If I had that kind of money I would be looking into getting a truck as a DD, why buy a car that has a huge tempting aftermarket, it will eventually defeat the purpose. For me Id like an 06' Trailblazer SS, Silverado, or even a Colorado Extreme.

if i had my way, i'd have a CTS-V for a DD.

Lincoln LS8 -- You can find a good used 2000-2002 with around 50k miles for the immediate area of $10-15K. Quick enough (low 15, high 14) with mid 14 capability with a cat-back, CAI, and tune. Handles like a dream though, incredible chassis and suspension. And of course, loaded to the hilt.

That's why we got one. Insurance isn't bad, gas mileage is around 21 (although you must use premium), but I tell ya, the car is phenomenal.

this man knows hip-hop!

G35X, EVO(you already got your toy, leave this alone), and in all honesty, an 05 Subaru Legacy GT Limited sedan or wagon.

I say buy the car that you know you can barely afford...you wont have money left to burn on mods so that wouldnt be a problem and if you ran so short on money that you couldnt keep the thing and it was reposessed there goes any boredom factor  honestly though I saw an ram srt-10 going for like 39 grand...its a truck with power and a price tag that screams "i wont be able to mod it" just my o2

G35 is nice looking, but still Nissan cheap on the inside. I was very dissapointed in it. Good performance out of them though.

Well, if you are leaning towards an import, I would suggest an is300. My friend has one, and it was a nice little car. Rides and handles well, and was pretty quick (even before he installed the turbo). Plus the seats are super-comfy, and the instrument cluster is really cool.

IS300 is small inside.
And Honda/Toyota cheap? Not to stick up for the imports, but they are usualy rated tops in quality. Nissan is VERY cheap on the inside. Thats how they make all that money.

Id suggest a Pontiac G6 GTP coupe with the 6spd. 240hp 3.9 V6, standard Stabilitrack, ABS, 18 inch wheels, revised hydraulic steering, and much much more. Coupe starts at around 25k and can be loaded up to 28k.
They also make a sedan, and if you feel like waiting, they will be coming out with a hard top vert for under 30k.

i am not a fan of the G6. just a lot of bells and whistles hung around a not so comfortable ride and crappy seats.
it is a car caught in between trying to be luxary and performance without the right mix of parts to be much of either.
they are sharp lookin cars and the general concept is good, the finished product just seems to have too many cut corners.
for all around driving confort, performance, and all weather road manners a 3series bmw with all wheel drive is an excellant choice. you are looking at teh same basic platform as an m-car without the marketing cost and all teh same engiens are available. you can also take advantage of most of the same bolt ons to increase performance if you choose to go that route. models that are only a few years old can be had for good prices in the mid to high 20'k's and excellant condition models around 30k

I own a Honda Accord EX v6 but now that I have three kids my next car will be a Charger. Balls and a big back seat for the three car seats.

i test drove a g35 before the camaro. g35=crap. 3 series was a **** load better. for a daily i would at least get something like a bmw or a lexus. something that holds its value so you can dump it easy when need be. its just a better financial decision.

pontiac solstice
cadillac CTS or CTS-v (preferable)
jeep commander
mercedes M-class
land rover

my short list. i know the last two are imports, but i'd be buying them used anyway, and most likely from an american car dealership (short explanation of the rationale: the money has already been sent to the foreign country but they were traded in on an american car - that's only half as evil as buying a new import).

i would also consider the new mustang, but buy it used, of course. buying a car a year old, used, means that someone else has paid that ungodly first year depreciation for you, and you can usually pick them up for thousands less than a new car. they typically don't have high mileage, either, somewhere in the neighborhood of 12k.
