I've had my 88TA for almost a year now and have never driven it. After going through an engine rebuild and restification of the interior and replacing some exterior parts, I still haven't gotten it on the road. Despite being so close (really just need a day to finish it) I've found myself contemplating the For Sale sign.

I found myself idelly scheming to find a way to trade or sell the 88TA... for a second gen TA (77 - 81). Tim's work on his, and a number of other websites with pictures like http://www.transamcountry.com/ just really make me want the second gen TA I desired before getting the 88TA.

Right now I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of selling an almost-finished third gen, yet I REALLY want a 77-81 TA. Can anyone suggest an easy way to give in and swap the third gen for a second gen? Or any good arguments for keeping the third gen (beyond being so close to finishing it)?

All tied in knots trying to sort this out.

Second gen T/As are very pretty, and I won't argue with you over wanting one, even though I prefer the third gens.

Just a word of advice, if you do decide to sell the 88, you should definetly "finish" it first. The small amount of money and time you put into it to get it there will pay off big time when you decide to stick the for sale sign on it. Most people won't pay nearly as much for an almost-running car as they will for a car they can test drive around the block.

or, if you are so close, finish the car and use it for a while and ee if you like it or not. You may start using it and that will make your decision all the much easier. I mean heck you have spent alot of time on it why dont you atleast enjoy the fruits of your labor for a while. just my $.02

Thanks for the insight guys. A good nights sleep and re-reading this thread made me decide to just finish it and enjoy it at least for a little while. I think I just got caught up in wanting what I didn't have.

Still gotta get a second gen at some point. It's a moral imperative.

zactly. i would differ only in the type of camaro/firebird for each gen. basically, if there was a serious road race car from the factory, or other such "speciality" like a pace car or WS6 then i would stick with formula firebirds and SS camaros. i think there is even a WS6 formula firebird available somewhere along the lineage in the third generation...

i'd have a hard time giving up my current cars, as well. i'd have to finish both of them, for starters, and then have a really good reason to let them go; as in, i sell my first gen and with the proceeds find a barn car RS/SS for the same money (or less!) or a Z28 with a DZ302 or a COPO 9560 (ally 427).

Makes me think about how I got my 79 455 Olds powered TA...
I had an 88 Formula w/ a Super Rammed 383 in it. I put it up for sale, and a dude came over in the 79 TA to look at my 88 Formula. He liked the Formula, I liked the TA, so we traded. That 79 TA was a lot of fun, 'cept for some constant tranny issues. I finally got it sorted out, and it ended up going to N Carolina with a new owner.

Wish I had that kind of luck. Even if the second gen doesnt run, I'd swap for somehting in the same kind of condition.
