I remember taking 8 hours to change the plug wires on my 93 Z28 but that was a pain because of the supercharger being in the way. So I figured the 96 wouldn't be as bad. Wow, it's a bigger pain in the :moon: than I thought since there's more crap on the 96 engine to get in the way. But it's only been 3-1/2 hours and the driver's side is done and the passenger side is half done so maybe 1-2 hours more at the most(I hope).

HaHa, 4 hours later and the plug wires are finally done. What a pain the butt on the passenger side going behind the ps pump and alternator. The MSD wires wouldn't quite reach with the stock wireloom holder in place so I had to rip it out and that took 1/2 hour itself. It's late, I'm all greasy/grimey and I'm tired.

plugs on an LT1 = major pain in the ass.

I'm not even going to attempt mine until I do the LT's.

You guys are talking about changing the plugs, I'm talking about the wires! Plugs are pain and the wires are even worse. The 93 wasn't nearly as bad as the 96. All the newer emissions crap makes it a lot tougher.

Yeah, I can reach into some tight corners, but was really wedging my arms in there trying to do the wires and I'm paying for it today. I didn't feel like dropping the y-pipe or starter so I jammed my arm up in there and managed to get the #8 wire off the plug and fished the new one back on somehow. I ended up taking the battery out to make sure I didn't short out any tools against the positive post so I'm not sure if I ended up erasing any codes in history or not.

Hehe, that was my plan untill the headers never came, and the car was back-firing.

I attempted it once... I only did the passenger side plugs, and gave up. Â*I couldnt even get the wires out of their metal looms, that hug the block.

I didnt do my plugs, but Ive heard the stories... Â*:?

Bah, you LT1 guys need to quite complaining. In my mom's old car (mid 70's Monza with a small block) you had to take off both wheels and undo one of the motor mounts to even have a shot at getting to all the plugs/wires.

ttp told me they wouldn't do headers on an LT1, but then again thats ttp what could I expect  ...

they have air tools and a lift what the hell are they complaining about... I can't imagine LS1 headers being to much easier, whatever...

like the sayign goes...if you want something done right do it yourself.

I said something similar on LS1tech, and they responded with. The LT1 will cost more in labor, and most people dont want to pay that much. I sure as hell paid out the ass for everything. Best shot would just to do it yourself. Headers are pretty straight-froward.

Just drove the car back into work this afternoon and it's definitely a little smoother so the new wires helped. Now I need to get some driving time for the computer to be ready for inspection. At least the weather looks a little better for the next week.

I did my plugs and wires when i put the slp headers on. Took a couple hours, but at least i didnt have the manifolds in the way. Maybe when I get long tubes in 50k miles ill do them again .... :)

Strategically placed zip ties to keep the wires away from the headers....that's about all you can do if you already have good wire covers on them.
