View Full Version : Pictures from the accident..
This is a copy/paste from cv6.com, but I thought I'd show you guys as well:

My goal is to spend the winter fixing the body damage. I'm not sure if I should do the body work or if I should let a shop do it. I'm going towards the route of doing the body work myself and then in spring getting it painted by a shop.
I really like the green color, so I'm gonna go with the same green and black stripes.
Anyways, just thought I'd share the pictures.
I got rear ended on 76 East towards Philadelphia. The lady pushed me into the car in front of me. As much damage as there is in the front, it was the rear that really got nailed.

I will be glad to help you out with any problems, I had a crash course in self-accident-repair-on-a-97-V6 this summer (no pun intended lol). You should be glad your airbags didnt go off, that saves a lot of hassle.
First thing I would do, looking at those pics, is make sure the upper frame rails are still straight. Then proceed from there.
I had to deal with this kinda thing....

Yeouch. And I thought 322 from the commodore to Glassboro was scary.
Ouchh.. ya that damage looks rough. You have any other advice for me? I'm kinda worried about what I'm going to see when the bumpers come off. That's one of the main things pushing me to just let a main body shop do all the work.

well look at my webshots you can see what I saw  You're far south so the best thing I can say is take oodles of pics and ask us for advice... start looking/saving now for a hood... take pics from all different angles, have patience and good luck
cant hurt to get estimate from body shops... see exactly what they say would need to be done... compare the lists or required work fromt eh different body shops... take pics of the areas in question and post em up here and ask questions.
Yaa well I have a hood picked out. It wasn't my fault, so I'm actually getting a $6100 check early next week. On top of that, the title will stay clean which is good.
I think the biggest issue I'll have will be finding parts.
Either way, you guys can be sure I'll be posting pictures and asking for help. I'll apologize now before I start asking a ton of questions within the next couple weeks :)

It doesn't look like you took enough of a shot in the front to mess up the radiator support, is that still straight?
If so, the hardest part you are prolly looking at is straightening out those 1/4 panels.

Ya from what I saw, the support is 100% ok. The car slid underneath the car in front of me, so the only actual damage there is from the muffler not moving.
Howd you go 270 on a 1/2 a tank?

if yer gettin a check for 6100 then why the hell are you bothering to fix the car?!! take off all your aftermarket goodies and buy a new LT1 car in just as good a shape as yours was (pre-accident) for about 4500-5000 and spend the rest of the money on parts. seriously, unless you have some psychotic sentimental attachment to that particular car, do the economical/logical thing.
yeah, I agree with coldkilla. If you're getting $6100, I'd be looking for a new car. you can sell that one as a repairable wreck with a clean title. probably make another grand off that.
Unless insurance is the reason you were gonna keep it, get a better car. Hell you could score a sweet 91-92 Z28 for $6100!
Well, the check itself is going to pay me out of credit card debt completely. I'll still have a couple grand left over, but I think I have all but decided on just selling her and saving up and getting a z28. Any ideas on what I should be thinking of selling it for? I have no idea where to even start as far as that.
K0ll: It's a v6 for starters. Also, I regularly get ~380-410 miles per tank. I do a lot of highway driving, so I just sit in 5th gear at ~2200 rpm doing 70-75.

in that shape you wont get much... pop the hood and take pics of the rad support and make sure the upper frame rails are still straight, if either is damaged that's even less you can get

you could strip it and sell it for parts. it's a lot of work, but it usually pays out in dividends far exceeding the value of the car as a whole.
in the shape it's in, i would at least take the wheels off and sell them seperately, and any aftermarket stuff you put in/on her. then sell her for $1000 +/- and walk away a happy person (7k for a wreck plus whatever you get for the wheels and other stuff).

I completly agree with everyone. Part that thing out, and when you're done sell the reast of whats left as the whole car on ebay for like 400 bucks. You'll make out much better
seriously.
Yaa, but parting the car out and selling it is a lot of work that I dont think I have the time for. I barely have time to do personal stuff as is :-/
