Went to pull my motor today for some preventative matinence and upon crawling under the car I noticed something funny/scary...

Cars been having crazy traction issues lately (which I blamed on the weather being colder...) but I guess the real problem was the fact that my transmission x-member is completely broke in half allowing my torque arm to move up and down quite freely... I imagine this could of eventually gotten ugly if I hadnt checked it. I've made a handful of 115+mph 1/4 mile blasts with it like this

wow
i think have a stock cross member here if you want it. if i can find some appropriate steel i will even box it in for you to try to prevent a repeat of this.

Ouch....you better give everything else a good look too. I'd be kinda surprised if the crossmember would be the first part to fail.

Ouch....that could definitely be causing your problems. Check out the mounting holes good when you replace it. Last time I went to the track my engine torqued so hard it pulled both bolts out on the driver side so the crossmember was only being held up by the passenger side bolts.

It broke because I clearanced it to give my exhaust some extra room.... I didnt think it'd weaken that bad though  I guess my dad was right when he told me they build things like that using JUST the right amount of metal to get the job done ...take any of that metal away and its worthless.

- JustinThis is no lie, years ago, i put a 383"sbc, in with a stock 373 rear, th700r4,10"3500 stall, in my 84' T/A, the car left the line, both wheels in the air, i was steering the car to the left, like at 10 o' clock, to keep the car straight and went 10.86 at 122mph. at 3390lbs. and got booted from Island, NO!!!, roll bar NO!!!nothing, they said your out'a here., but when taking out motor & trans. i never saw that trans. mount was pulled out of the frame on the passengers side that it touched the ground, broke the drivers mount, bent the stock torque-arm so bad, that the rear was to the right and i was steering to the car left to keep it straight.VERY SCARY. JR1.
