What we should do is have a poker tournament. Designate one night a month or every 2 months, like a saturday night, play at someones house, rules can be established later but i was thinking something along the lines of a $20 buy in, unlimited buy backs for the first 2 hours (meaning if you go out, you can buy back in for an additional $20 as many times w/in the first two hours). Should do BYOB for those who are underaged and yeah chill back and have a good time playing some cards... what y'all think? Yay, nay?

cause playing cards is boring as hell. in AC or Vegas it is fun cause of the atmosphere, but sitting around someones house/apartment/dorm and playing cards is just lame.

Eh, I disagree... I play poker every day of the week, either online, my poker club, or in Atlantic City (and recently, Vegas... just got back from Vegas 2 weeks ago). I was in AC from Monday to Thursday this week lol... just got home this afternoon.

Poker has been an extremely large supplement to my income, and I find it exciting studying players and learning how to read them, regardless of the venue, whether it be a casino, or someone's living room. Plus, winning definitely makes the game less boring.

Just because you find it boring doesn't make it "gay"...

im down for a weekly thing, but what i was thinking about is having one state wide tourny a month so that we can all get together outside of going to a resturant, but as for a central jersey thing, i say we go for a weekly or bimonthly poker night

seriously. i've got $20 a week that i could stand to lose. even better if i pick up some loose change.

who's down? central, man up.

except with the ratio we have here it would end up a sausage fest. no good, man, no good. keep your focus. weekly poker. monthly tourney.

If anyone wants me to help teach them, I'd be more than willing. Just got back from AC today... placed 11th in a field of 49 at the tourney at Showboat... I could have done better, but I made a couple bad moves that cost me my tournament life.

We can teach them as they play with us... its not really a hard concept... the fact is that the hardest part isnt the cards... its how to play the game as far as betting and making reads

We try to do weekly games but most of our old farts keep coming up with lame excuses and backing out. $20 won't go far for somebody. We usually figure bring $40-50 and just hope you don't have a terrible night. Are you talking about poker with wildcards and different games or straight up poker with maybe 1 game like Texas hold em? We usually rotate the dealer who can call whatever hand he likes, wildcards or not.

i hate playing dealers choice. i'll play, but it's gotta be one game, don't care what the game is...

That's what I meant... not the basics of the game, but teaching them betting patterns, reads, tells, strategy, etc. etc.

if the newbs want to play with us, we will only confuse them with dealer's choice games. if we do play dealer's choice for the weekly game, then the monthly tournament could be a standard game like omaha, 7-stud or hold 'em. of course details need to be worked out, but i don't see how that would affect the weekly get-togethers. having different faces each week would add to the game, so no need to make it to every game. as long as at least four people show, then the game is on.
