I'm sitting here at work reading about the housing market being hot in our area(pretty obvious) and that made me think about what could I cash out for. If I were to sell my house, my 69 Z28, cash in my 401K and my employee stock I think I would be worth almost $650,000(probably more since I know our stock has gone up). I think I'd head south to FL or the Bahamas and go kick back and bait fish hooks for a living! Oh well, gotta get back to work...

properly invested you could be very comfortable with that kind of cash. don't think it woudl be enough to retire on, but you coudl certainly ease off of the daily grind a bit.
650k in an ing direct orange savings(paying 3.5% currently) is still 22.5k a year. not a bad income for jsut continuing to breath. add a part time job or even a barely full time job doing something fun and you can easily make another 20k a year.
that is plenty of cash for a double wide in florida and money left over for toys :D

p.s. i am not encouraging you, jsut agreeing it a cool thought. i woudl never do anything to promote you selling that 69 before you at least have a chance to take it around the block and see what all your time and effort created :p

i wonder how the market is in PA? refinance, buy a plot of land. sit on it for a couple years or go 4-wheeling on it. then eventually sell it to a builder who can subdivide it and make mad money once urban sprawl sets in. wooooot!!!

that's the plan. my income will be coming from a different source, will most likely be four times your number, and we'll likely keep the house here as rental income. we're moving where the sun shines 90% of the year and humidity is near nonexistent. also, the cost of living is about 25% of what it is here. once i'm gone i won't spend a single second thinking about this crap hole.

p.s. my car is going with me.

Dam, I was wrong. I just wrote out the mortgage check and I have $29 left in the bank! I guess I don't really have to worry about Christmas at this point, the credit card already has $800 on it! So somebody buy some of the stuff I have for sale already!
