First draft:
Why Affirmative Action is ********
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English language defines Affirmative Action as a “Program that seeks to redress past discrimination through active measures to ensure equal opportunity, as in education and employment”. The street meaning for this is, ‘getting something for nothing’. Companies and schools are becoming too eager to please minorities who most of the time aren't as deserving as people who aren't in the minority. But these businesses and institutions have a valid reason, if they don’t hire or accept a person of a certain race the ‘Race Card’ automatically gets thrown. “I wasn’t hired because I’m black”, “I didn't get accepted because I’m Jewish”. Never have I heard “I wasn't hired because I am unqualified” on 60 Minutes. No, it’s always about somebody who thinks they deserve something they did not earn.
I was driving to the Stockton Hockey game last Saturday when I heard that PST was hiring people for their radio station, It was the standard radio station ad. “If you are a hard worker who does great in a team. Who can put in the hours and make the listeners want to keep coming back to PST, we have a position for you”. I didn't think anything of it, until the last line which I played over again and again in my mind, “Minorities are encouraged to apply.” Why? Are minorities special? Can they do something non-minorities can? I didn't know race or religion was a qualification for a career.
I am your standard white guy, I don't have a hard life, I don’t have to worry about how my college bills are paid. But I know people that do, and it’s not because they are poor, but it’s because they aren't a minority. I always thought minorities had it easier until I was rudely awakened over the summer of my junior to senior year in high school. I opened my township’s newspaper to find out I wasn't in the majority, my high school was 51% Black, 44% Caucasian, and 5% Other. All this time, I was a minority. Did I get special treatment because I was a minority? No. Were my penalties less severe? No. Did I get extra time on assignments and tests? No. I finally came to the conclusion that minorities aren't treated specially. But then I realized that I was wrong, minorities were treated specially, but only certain minorities. Being a white minority is just like being in the majority, there is no difference, and that’s discriminatory.
CNN reported, On December 22nd, 2003 the Supreme Court ruled that the University of Michigan was unconstitutional by “Granting points for an applicants race, equivalent to a full grade point on a student’s GPA.” A full point. That would have made my rock steady 3.6 in high school an amazing and unobtainable 4.6, if I were Mexican. Just because they are a minority does not make them more qualified, but yet it makes them more diserable to colleges. Race looks better on a college resume than being a selected All-American Athlete. A couple decades ago the Supreme Court “Outlawed quotas but still left more for schools to improve the odds for minority applicants.” So, basically, being a minority has a majority of pull with schools.
Now some people may not believe me, so here is first hand proof, it cost me $50 last year, but it was defiantly worth it. Last year, a Black friend of mine was turned down by a historically Black college, while I felt bad for him at the time since that was his number one school, I saw it as an opportunity for me.
I took a copy of his turned down application and got a fresh one for myself. I copied his application word for word, changing my name, address, a couple words on the essay, and the last change; the ‘White/Caucasian’ bubble was filled in. I send it off and anxiously wait for a reply, it was like the night before Christmas every time I saw the mail man. Until that one day, it came. I opened it up and read, “Dear Mr. Barnett, we are proud to inform you of your acceptance to (College Here), we are especially pleased about your interest in a Historically Black institution. We cordially invite you and your family to take a campus tour etc. etc.” I was satisfied at this point, but a week or so later I started receiving outrageous scholarship offers that I never received from my personal schools, even though my personal resume made his resume looked like it was written in crayon. Maybe it just pays to be different.

Damn, dude. You're quite the writer.
all I'm going to say is this:
black people are still discriminated against. white people are getting pushed out fo jobs they are qualified for. My solution? Find a job where no one can replace you, like being a mechainc. doesnt matter if your black, white, brown or yellow. if you show up on time and do quality work, you're the guy for the job!

i started to elaborate more on questioning why being a minority is important to a RADIO station, teacher enjoyed, and said she loves the title (little old white lady) :)

Well done. You should even send that to the radio station...
It just goes to show you that rarely anything (if not nothing) in society is ever merit based.

there is no delicate way to say it: affirmative action provides opportunities for people who may not deserve them.
it touches all areas, all levels and all walks of life. if you aren't someone who qualifies for affirmative action then you know someone who does. nothing is merit based anymore. it's either highly politcal or just handed to someone because of the color of their skin (as long as it's dark).
i am not racist - i worked hard to change the values i learned as a young person growing up in a bigoted household, whose father came home nightly complaining about the "spooks, spics, ******s, kikes, chinks and white trash". still, something has to be done about an act that had good intentions when it was drafted but that has gotten seriously off-track of what its original intentions were.
any chance you can email me the other paper, the one about natural selection?

Wait! If you are a minority how are people gonna know if you are hired? Its radio not t.v. You cant see it, so unless they have a thick accent people are not going to know, and if you have a thick accent it will turn people away because they cant understand squat

Without getting too much into this topic:
1. Affirimative Action helps middle and upper class racial minorities the most. It gives them the "boost" over their white and asian peers who went to the same schools. Instead of targeting racial groups, they should target socio-economic groups. A white who goes to school in Camden has the same handicap as a black does. Instead of helping those who truly need it, it just places a divide based on race.
2. While a young lass in Engineering school, there was a female colleague with worse grades than me (I didn't think it possible). She got summer job after job and full-time offer after FT offer after graduation. When asked how she managed to do it when the rest of us were struggling, she grabbed her ample busom and said "Cause of these. 'Equal Opportunity' is a bitch sometimes but I'll use every advantage I can."
3. AA targets the wrong age bracket. Instead of "dumbing down" entrants to the college level, they (Liberals) need to focus on bringing these kids up to the level of the "white" kids. The focus should be intervention earlier.
4. For those who went to colleges with an AA program, have you ever noticed the "minorities" clicking themselves off from everyone else? If the purpose of AA and letting in less qualified applicants is to enrich the student population then shouldn't those "let in" be integrated into the student body instead of forming their own sub-culture?
5. How many people let in under AA go back into the communities they came from and help out? How many doctors set up shop there? Or how many get the good job and leave the "old hood" behind? How is this helping the community?
AA is one of those "good intentions" experiments that failed. Some call it "white guilt" for what happened years before many of our ancestors even emigrated here. If you want to truly help people because they can't help the parents they were born to, base AA strictly off of your parents income level and the schools you went to. No one from Princeton, Moorestown, or Cherry Hill should qualify for AA regardless of race as you will get an outstanding education as long as you show up. Likewise anyone from Newark or Camden should qualify as they truly went through hell just to make it to graduation.

Natural Selection
All of the world’s problems could simply be solved just by removing the warning labels off of every product. By doing this, natural selection will directly effect the kind of people left in the world. The concept of Darwinism, the theory that every man should fend for himself, is very real and should be adopted by all countries, not just in certain third world countries where fending for yourself is a necessity. By having no warning labels, the government and especially major corporations will save a lot of time and money. The most important thing, by far, will be the huge cut of all stupid people in the world.
The ban of warning labels will indirectly solve the problem of overpopulation. People should have enough common sense to know such things as; hot coffee is hot, and it will burn. It is surprising that those types of people even know how to breathe and walk at the same time. If hot coffee is dumped on the genitals, it is bound to cause some reproduction problems, thus suing the company for damages to one, is just idiotic. This is one way companies would not be sued over frivolous lawsuits. Not allowing these types of people to pass on their genes will limit the number of “slower” people in the world. With brainless people regenerating less, problems such as overcrowded prisons will be diminished.
By removing warning labels, natural selection will become the backbone of civilization; there would be no such thing as a suicide hotline. The only kind of suicide hotline you would find would be some guy answering phones, saying ‘do it’, then hanging up. If a person wanted to commit suicide it would not be an ‘attempted suicide’; an attempted suicide is a cry for attention. There are some things that are difficult in this world; calculus, finding out what a girl really means when she says, “I’m okay”, killing yourself is not one of these things. If you fail to kill yourself you are a complete waste of life and should be helped out of misery. If someone wanted attention, attempting suicide is not the way to go, I hear joining the circus is great for self-esteem.
If there were no such thing as a suicide hotline, than there would be no reason for rehab. Rehab helps people who got into problems by doing or trying something stupid. The Darwin theory of rehab would be alcohol spiked apple juice at the local AA meetings and coke covered donuts at the Narcotics Anonymous buildings. Hopefully by doing this people will not find solace in being clean, but others will find solace in them being dead. There is no reason whatsoever for a deadbeat junkie to be alive; if anything, he should a human piñata.
Not only does natural selection kick up the average IQ, it does much more. It removes wasters, useless people, who will never amount to anything. It saves the government tons of money by not paying for welfare for dumb women who have sixteen kids and no job. It will save by not having to pay disability to ‘disabled’ people, or people who went poor because of their crack habit, these are the same people you see selling phones books door to door. If you are too fat or stupid, you are not handicapped, you are too fat or stupid. Don’t waste good parking because you can’t limit yourself to 5 Double Quarter Pounders a day; or all that heroin has finally taken it’s toll. There should be no such thing as welfare, because it gives useless people a reason to stick around and collect government checks, when what those people should really be doing is looking for a job, or making use of themselves by jumping off a bridge. Maybe someday someone will get the keys to the gene pool and dump some chlorine in it.

your writing is amazing  i liked this line the best:
The only kind of suicide hotline you would find would be some guy answering phones, saying ‘do it’, then hanging up.
that made me laugh. i agree some of the warning labels are freaking retarded! i saw this one on a website that has all these dumb warning labels: Do Not Turn Upside Down. (this was on the bottom of the object, i forget what it was) like you said if your too damn stupid to know that coffee is hot or that water and electricity dont mix, you should die... i dont agree that disability should be eliminated because there are some people that truely need it, the claims should be read better and the recipients should be chosen better.
