ok so I took my car out and around the block like 10 times it sounded ****** as hell (valve tap and some knocking sorta like a rub) then I realized I was on E and I went to the gas station and put $10 of regular ( I can do that :) ) and there were theese pretty girls in a volvo so Im done and Im sitting at the corner waiting for a chance to go and they come behind me and I see a chance to go so I floor the **** outa my car peeling out half way down the street (its a short street because I had to turn) and then I pull back to my house and my freind comes over and I tell my mom were goin to get an estimate for paint so we go there and we get there at 2:45 and they close at 3 and they give me the estimate (top of the line ****) $1800 included boddy work and there like are you gonna leave the keys here or what I said shure why not and they said they will get started on monday and should be done by thursday next sat. by the latest I was like :!: :!: and then me and my freind took a bus home and when I told my mom she flipped out and kicked me out for an hour and when she finally let me in I had to clean the garage   O yeh Im getting my car painted charcole gray the original color Im not getting ground effects or a different bumper or anything just gonna look stock and after I pay all this **** off Im gonna order wheels and a 84 trans am aerokit and have it painted black

no liscence
I drove it around the block my freind with a liscence drove it to get an estimate ( main roads) I have about 250 that I was gonna get a guitar with but now Its going to paint I would have had 1200 but I spent it on a cam, headers,y pipe, intake and a catback the only thing I have installed is the catback anyone want to help me put the rest of the stuff I have on? seeing I wont have any money to have it installed??

Ummm, why are you driving it and why are you telling a shop to paint it if you have no money? I can't believe you even have a car at that age. Why would you need to paint it now if you won't be able to drive it for several years? Better call that paint shop and cancel it before they start working on it.

ya all the driving around makes no sence and also i would do everything to the car that you want done before paint like i am doing/done i just put another rear in today i have to buy my other engine parts then in the spring it will be getting painted. this way nothing will get scratched and **** and i wont kill my self if it does happen. just my 2cents.
Damn that was one big sentence that i've read. And why are you driving at 14?

Mods before bods. Seriously, a car that has serious performance but not so great of paint, is way better than a pretty car that's gonna get scratched up while you try to make engine improvements after you paid a bunch of money to have it look that nice. Besides, if it's not a looker, at least it can be a sleeper. Of course, both the paint and performance together are great for the total package appeal, but realistically, it's usually best to put the money towards making sure it runs like a champ continuously first. And if you really do think after a paint job that is as expensive as the one you're getting, that it's gonna get scratched when you install a cam, for the love of god, install the cam with the yucky paint. or at least protect the new paint with a tarp or something. Sorry, i'm done my rant. that's just two cents and the way I see it, but it's your car, and your money, not mine. Good luck. ;)

While I have no idea what the hell is going on, point comes down to this..
How are you gunna pay these guys that are gunna paint your car? Did your mother take out a loan? Did you set up some sort of payment plan with the shop? Why did you buy parts for the car when you knew full well that it was gunna cost you X amount of dollars to paint it? I understand your ambition, but it sounds like you dont have a game plan here. You are just going about, doing what you want, with no goal or goals outside that you want to drive the car, which you wont really be able to do, legaly, till you are at least 16.
You shouldnt lie, especialy to us. We dont find it cool that an uninsured 14 year old is driving around with a car like that. We will help you out, but there is no need to lie like that.
My little brother is helping me with the 72, because one day Id like to give it to him as his bday present, and something for him to drive to school on nice days. It was that or buy a kit car hot rod, and have him drive that to school. Both would be bad ass. Good luck, but come up with a game plan first. No one will help you out if you know what you want to do.

on another note...good luck with the whole money thing.
1800 is not a lot at all for body work and paint, top of the line paint after buying the primer, base, reducers, etc would come to at least that price alone, plus labor, what brand paint is it? dupont, glasso, ...? are they baking it? single or two stage paint? factory color? jams? i dont mean to be a ball buster but for 1800 no shop around here would even bother looking at a car in that situation.

soiunds like he's grounded for spending mom's money before telling her how much it was going to be. he was only supposed to be going after an estimate, but the guy hooked him with the "presumptive close" and asked him for the keys. pretty ****** thing to do to a 14 year old, and the paint shop had better make damn sure they are going to get their money before they get started. just my humble opinion.
i'm actually glad to know you are not driving around at 14. when i was your age, yeah, we messed around and joyrode mom&dad's cars, but the laws weren't the same. you can get screwed in more ways than one for driving without a license/registration/insurance (like 10 points, thousands of dollars in fines and court costs and then the insurance company will stick their hand in your pocket, too) - and then pray like hell that you don't get into an accident or anything.

A top notch will cost you more than $1800 in materials alone plus another 8-10k in labor so don't expect much from this shop and don't be disappointed if it's cracked and peeling by the time you get your license.
Get the engine running correctly, take a class and learn how to paint it yourself....and spend the next 3 years taking your time to do it right. And DO NOT Joyride!

BigAls87Z28
12-19-2005, 02:22 PM
WHA! Wow, didnt know paint jobs were that expensive. Well, super awesome mega detailed ones yeah.
IMO, this kid should sand the crap out of it, fill in the low spots, spray it with primer and just take it to a quality Macco shop. IMO, he will probably be happier with that, and you spend nearly as much money.
Brando56894
12-19-2005, 02:28 PM
thats what i was thinkin al, 8-10 grand for labor sounds like a ****load of money
getting cars painted sucks, thats why ill be painting all my cars myself in the future, after a few i should get the hang of it. and 27"s are where its at. I have 20's(giovannas) and they look tiny on my truck, i want to upgrade to 24's but they are a lotta money. The cheap large wheels you can buy suck due to more rotating mass which wont allow the vehicle to stop nearly as good, thats why they charge so much for good 20's and larger.

as far as paint....wait for it. i got a VW from my dad's friend when i was 14. it was a Quantum Wagon and looked like a POS. i saved cash and by the time i was 16, i had a nicely warmed up GTI Turbo motor in it and was keeping pace IROCs. i woulda killed for an Fbod when i was 14, but the VW was there and it was practice.
like Al said, you need a plan. sit down one day with a notebook and write out everything you want to do to it. then price out the parts online. make sure to remember that the mods have to compliment each other. you can't put on 17x9.5s and not upgrade the brakes. start at the wheels and work up to the paint, deatiling everything inbetween you want.
look at it this way, i'm almost twice your age and have duct tape patching a hole in the front corner of my 96(Acura ran me off the road, stupid ricers), but the car hauls. body work is the last thing on my mind, and my shop has it's own body shop!

  wow. 40k in paint is a lot. i was thinking 4-6k, but i'm gonna help with the sanding, too, which eats up a lot of labor, so it may end up being less. also, to keep the costs down, i will not be going with black. any black car that isn't done correctly looks like ass.
lol that car was an example i felt like using......its a 100% flawless custom job, airbrushed all over, (meaning the jams, under hood and trunk, in the gas lid, and wheel wells. oh yeah and its got true flames as well......
anyone that was at last springs swap meet at englishtown it was the viper with the midevil paint scheme on it

ITS BACK!!! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2066299/1
Not the best job but then again its way better then before! I need to update my car domain... and also the rear and front bumpers are messed up (damn plasticness) (yeh I just made a word up) and they are ordering a new drivers side turn light assembly because while fixing the car they took it out and they lost it... not bad for a maaco actually its a hell of alot better then I expected so all in all I am happy as hell besides for noticing a dent under the gas cap ( never noticed it before gloss)

Quick lesson. Never give a rats ass about what other people think, it will make you go broke and crazy. Looks good.

Quick lesson. Never give a rats ass about what other people think, it will make you go broke and crazy. Looks good.thats true and its also a reason why I am sticking with my 305 in stead of building a 350 plus I plan on getting a 4th gen for daily driving and a 1st gen show car ( really far away from now)
you never said you car was ****-brown...
