Hey all,
I'm just a poor-ass teacher trying to make some extra $$ to pay the mortgage and family bills. Anyone know of any places in Bergen County looking for part time employees? I can do a few weeknights and weekends. I'm decent with computers, and good with tools, though the job doesn't necessarily have to be auto related. Maybe a hardware store or something?

Post or PM if you have any leads.

Much appreciated!

Steve, I don't mean to sound insulting by mentioning this..but FedEx is hiring. Being a school teacher, I guess the night shift would work..7-12, you could probably leave earlier though. The jobs would be loading/unloading trucks. Starting pay is $9.50/hour. If you're interested I'll give you the details for applying.

Ted, believe me, nothing is insulting except my teaching salary. I work in the lowest-paying district in Bergen County. There are kids that get hired as teachers fresh out of college in other towns and make more than what I am making after EIGHT years of teaching. It's miserable, but I have job security and can't leave cause I need the benefits for my family. I'll shoot ya a PM later on.

Are any other districts going to be hiring after this year by chance? Or is it not worth it with tenure and such (I'm not an ed major, don't shoot me for basic questions )

It's not a silly question, fear not. There might be openings, but I'd rather not go through another 3 years of worrying about every little thing that goes on inside a classroom until I get tenure again somewhere else. The job security is worth it, just the pay sucks! Most districts are starting at $40K now; lets just say I'm not "quite" there yet after all these years. And, with property taxes going up nearly $2K and commuting expenses doubling (price of gas), unless I get like a $4K raise I'll actually wind up making less money next year.

I hate money.

its a little bit of a commute but my pharmacy may be looking for a delivery driver for the evening. our present delivery driver is in florida right now and he hinted at possibly moving down there. i would love to have you work for us being more responsible then the other applicants. it would also be great to have someone handy around the place. besides... you get to drive the mighty isuzu! lol i'll talk to my father tommorow morning and see what he says about the old driver. i dont know where you live but here is the address to our pharmacy so you can mapquest it and see how far the drive is from you. it takes me about 15 minutes to get there from mahwah normally doing about 70 or 80 on the thruway.

Thanks for the sentiments Bill. I've checked with a bunch of dealerships to see if they need a lot jockey or detailer, but have struck out so far. I'm gonna PM Ted now to get some info on FedEx.
