Ok, i know some parts change over the life of the LS1 motor but i have a few questions. Ok, I have a 2001 LS1 that threw a rod and destroyed the motor. its still in the car but it looks like the damage is limited to the rod, oil pan, front cover and block. It blew up right upon start up so i am thinking maybe the rest of the bottom end was spared, such as the crank and 7 other rods, pistons, and valvetrain. Motor had 64k when it popped.
Thats the first part, secondly, I have a 99-00? Ls1 engine that was in a z28 that went off road and sheered the bottom off the block.
I was wondering if i get another LS1 block and oil pan, could i take the remaing bottom end out of the '01 and use 1 rod and piston from the 99(or '00) motor? also what exactly are the differences over the years, i know egr system, injector size, etc, but a comprehensive list would help. Thanks in advance.
