View Full Version : WTB or LOF a black third-gen GTA/TA
Yea, Im going through third gen withdrawl's. If anybody has, or sees a black GTA or Trans Am for sale, preferably 87-92, let me know. The body has to have about 90,000 miles, a 350 motor (or a 305 w/5speed), or better . T-tops is optional. No rust, no dents, no projects, no v6's, and absolutely no formulas... Im just looking for something to drive around in on occasional weekends. If you were to rate it, it should be about an 8.5+ out of 10 . I dont wanna have to do work to it unless I absolutely have to.
My budget is around $5000 , I made sure I put $10G's away for a house and $3000 for my camaro's appearance upgrades + exhaust, but if I have to scrounge some extra dough out of it for the perfect car, I will. Thanks.
And no gheying up this thread plz :-D

If you're looking for a perfect car why are you looking for one of those POS's again? You have admitted the vast superiority of the 4th gen Camaro...

I looked in auto trader and ebay NOTHIN :x good luck
there is just something about 3rd gens. If you had a 3rd gen as your first car, i think you know what i mean. I had an 88 gta and i will always remember that car and would love another, yeah it may be slower, but it still has its own look and feel. Thats one reason i will never sell/strip my '85 iroc. If i come across any good deals ill let ya know, but usually what i pull in need considerable work.

My point exactly. Yea, even tho my 86 Trans Am pushing an LG4 was considerably slow, I had a lot of memories in it. A first car is a first car. It sounded ****in nasty as hell, in a good way... Its hard to describe, I love my Camaro and all, but just to get another chance to own something exactly like my first would just be plain awesome.

Third gen's drive better....
I have an 02 WS6 and my 84 firebird just drives better. The 4th gens became to mainstream in some areas to please too many people. They lost some of their edginess that should be in a performance car. Also 4th Gen's just weigh too damn much. My 02 weighs in at nearly 1000LBS more then my 84, really hurts the tossability of the car in corners. I think as of right now I will always want a third Gen to at least beat around in. I guess if you have never had a third Gen you just don't get it.

Its not that third gens are slow; you can make them fast...very fast  IMO, the new F-Bodies are too "bubbly." Batman, you are 110% right. Many people have decent looking/running 4th gens. But, how often do you come across a sexy looking/fast 3rd gen?
I had a third gen RS as my second car and will never forget her. Thats why now I'm looking for a 3rd gen 5spd. V6 or V8...though V6 would be fun; nobody really has done up a 2.8/3.1 right..yet ;)
I'll be sure to keep an eye out for ya...and good luck!

Ive seen that car around. Its nice, but the price is getting out of hand. If it was spring time, I can find one just like that for around 5000. Its at $6K+ and reserve is still not met.

not a formula, but it looks really nice. LO3 engine(easy to mod for power). looks like it is filled up with all the power stuff too, i can see power windows, locks, mirrors, and i am sure hatch release too.

thats a nice bird!!! I would prolly end up saving money if I traded my car in and got that....
Well, Im looking at an 86 T/A right now, owned by one of the club members. Unless his car has frame damage and/or underbody rust, Ill look into that 91. Looks pretty slick.

I agree..i miss my 89 ws6 alot..wish i never sold it..not saying i didnt buy my 93..i just wish i could of kept both..
And i definitly felt my 89 handled better..although it had alot of the suspension parts worked..
oh well..ill get another one day..hopefully a tta too :D
i knew of a mint 89 gta that just sold by me(i think), i knew the owner, older gentleman, always babied, had 114k miles, mint body(i think hood had a lil dent), no rust, mint leather interior, 305 tpi hardtop 5 sd. sold for around 4000. it MAY still be available. i will look into it if you're interested. The owner is now in a wheel chair due to diabeties.

Just FYI the 91 doesn't look like a T/A, might just be a V8 firebird.

I'm with you on that one. If a 77-81 lands in my lap, I'll be selling the 88TA.
