I just got this months Car Craft Mag, and they always feature a small 3 page cartoon about Krass and Bernie, two gear heads that involve them getting into some sort of situation involving racing or cars or both.
This month, they have the idea of adopting a section of highway that doesnt get much use, and is a dead end. Its about a mile long, and they adopt it. It ends up to be a place where they and others race on. The highway is still new, and there is a story about that, but what are the chances this could happen in real life? Could someone adopt a part of highway that dosent get any use, and race on it? If you are adopting it, it is yours, and wouldnt that mean that you could do what you want?
Only thing I can think of agains tthis is that street racing is illegal, i just figured that would the highway be considerd private property?

adopting means taking care of it and cleaning it, not that it is yours..

I really can't believe that someone analized this as much as you did. Adopting a highway in real life means you are paying the state so much money to put your name on that section(basically a donation to the state to help with road improvement costs). What you are suggesting cannot be done anywhere. The state still owns the property unless they outright sell it to you. Then it becomes private property and then you have to adhere to the local laws like noise and such. Basically, it cannot be done anywhere else except in a cartoon.

it all comes down to insurance, and even if you adpot it, you dont own the land and legally you cant just do what you want. Mainly by adopting it, you can clean up the garbage along that section.

my stepdad told me he used to race on 295 and rt 55 years ago when they were building new sections of it. as far as this story, i think it is just a cartoon for enertainment and not worth much more than that.

When I was little (like 7), my older brother took me to Great Adventure. Since we lived in Belmar/Wall, we of course took route 195. Except it wasn't open yet. :)

They just put up a new D&D on Rt. 208 right by my house at a perfect stretch of road where its physically impossible for cops to hide. The 1/4 is marked perfectly by road signs.

Im going to scout it out when the weather gets better. I know that stretch is always deserted after midnight. Its perfect for grudge runs and you can even get away with comming to a complete stop.

no vehicle access. its part of weird US. it was gonna be part of 76 AKA penn parkway, but they found a better route. its too bad too, cause its at least 5 miles long.

to get to it, you have to pull over on 76 and walk through the woods. mad gay.
