theres this wierd ass heatsink/fan holder on this p4 ABIT board my dad got as a combo (mobo + processor) off of ebay and it has a holder that ive never seen on one before, it came with a p4 heatsink and fan but the guy that owned it before was a lying ******* and i went to the ABIT site and this specific board has a normal intel holder i couldnt find one that had one that looked like mine. i would like to use this board if i have to send the board im using now back to Asus since a few of their BIOS upgrades rendered my perfectly good mobo into a major piece of ****.. well heres the pics:

IS7, at first i thought it was LS7 then after looking at the boardi realized it was an I :(
theres like no room for a heatsink on there unless those "clamps" go in between the fins on the heatsink to hold it down. that would be an easier way as opposed to intels stupid "clips" way those things are a pain in the ass to get off and the stupid fan is always a PITA to put on the heatsink....

i've only ever seen that type of hold-down in pictures ( read: old! ). never did see the chip/heatsink/fan that went in one, tho...

yea when i went to go use it i was like wtf?? ill prolly just end up buying a replacement bracket from abit for like $6. thatd prolly be the easiest thing to do. they sell all replacement parts for liek $6, good idea. i wish ASUS would do that so i could just buy a new bios chip and be done with it, but noo instead i gotta call them up between 10 and 4, which is kinda hard considering i never get outta bed until about noon then go to class and get out at like 3 or so.

It looks to me that there is a heat sink that rides in and that clamp goes ontop of it to hold it down. Atleast thats what my older mother board did until i just upgraded to an ASUS board. :)

Shut the machine down, and unplug the switch for a few seconds. Then power up the switch again, and then power up each computer attached to the switch. Windows boxes can be funny about grabing IPs sometimes....

on another note... we all know asus makes great products but their customer support sucks ass. i posted **** on their board about my problem and in about 2 weeks i had only 2 responses which werernt helpful at all. then i filed a RMA (?) and after about 3-4 days (they said they would contact me within 48 hours) i got an email pretty much saying "call the BIOS dept." and guess what? its a freakin long distance call to kentucky! wouldnt u think a big company like them would have a toll free number? like i said before theyre only open till 4 pm so i called at 3:30 and got this chicks answering machine that said she was out sucking some.... errr i mean processing BIOS orders and she left all this **** saying if you want to order a new bios go to the help desk and order one there. when i heard this i was like "sweet, now i can order a new chip and still have a computer while it gets here" no such luck. their helpdesk site just gives me a MySQL error. on the chicks machine she also said that if you want them to reflash your current BIOS chip you need to send it to them along with a $5 check for return shipping. not that bad, i read on other boards that back in 04 they used to to charge $20 for a reflash. off the same board i found a site called badflash.com which supplies new BIOS chips for a variety of boards but they charge $25. ok im done ranting now...
