View Full Version : anyone interested in weld wheels?

Mike

i moved this out of the classifieds since we arent the ones buying and selling in this situation, and i want as many people to see this as possible..

I just emailed weld racing wheels in regards to setting up a gp for our members interested in purchasing their product. I have no reply from them as of yet, but i would like to gauge who would be interested so that i can have an approximate number for them if it does go through.

*hence the reason i moved it into the lounge with its high traffic*

well post up your interest, size isnt important at this point, just your choice in wheel style and how many you would want, and ill start a list in this thread, and if all works out ill be updating you all soon.

1. cbrrmike- prostars
2. onefast383- prostars
3. savage messiah- prostars
4. Transam4life prostars
5. jw prostars or draglites
6. 79camarodiva ?
7. 1rawta prostars
8.
9.

Just a thought but has anyone thought about Bogarts, the price is kinda iffy but the fitment is perfect with no grinding at all needed. Maybe try contacting these guys from LS1tech.com maybe they can hook us up with a GP as well.?!

OK well NEVERMIND getting anyone from fullthrottle on it...

Hey,

I had to delete your thread about the Weld GP because TSP and Thunder both carry those wheels. I really appreciate your enthusiasm and thoughtfulness in including our board on that sale, but since we don't allow others to do this... we can't allow you to. Hope you understand, I know you meant no harm by doing so.

That's pretty much the way it will be on any board that is sponsored. Sites have to constantly keep their advertisers best interests in mind.

Yea that is true.

I'm also if the price is right of course but by "right" I mean ceap compared to everyone else... and ideally we will be getting that anyway. Did that just make any sense???

For guys with 4th Gens, I have a post with the Weld Pro-Star and Draglite sizes, and offsets and info on the required spacer (front) and a photo of the brake caliper grinding (rear) in this FAQ. Its at the very bottom of the thread:

thanks Fred. looks like the fitment is really good!

are there any problems with rubbing?

i'm probably gonna run a comparable size BFG DR so i can throw them on at my house before i head to the track.

I was running Hoosier QTP 28x11.5-15's and the only thing I had to do was move the axle back about 1/4". When the trap speeds went over 125mph, they were growing enough to rub on the front/metal edge of the fender opening. Moving the axle back solved that. And the fender wells had already been hammered for my street 315's.

When I tried to put the ET Drags on - which are supposed to be 28.1" diameter - they wouldn't even clear the edge of the bumper cover. I ended up cutting about 1/2" off the rear bumper cover, and hammering back the sheet metal "point" that is right under the bumper. I actually ended up with a groove in the tire after a dyno pull that took it up over 130mph.

He'd be getting 15 x 8 prostars for an 02 bird, again that's if the price is right

Also pending admin approval I will be opening a thread there in the "wheels" section basically saying "I'm interested in getting Weld prostars, want to see who else has been thinking about buying Welds" and PMing from there. (1 admin said he sees no prob and is waiting for the other one to give the OK as well)

haha I browsed through cv6/fbv6 to amuse myself earlier, saw a guy who had draglites recommended to him so shot him an email...

Hey,

I just wanted to let you know that my local club is attempting to get a group purchase together, check this link: http://www.njfboa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15469 (https://stuowa.wpunj.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.njfboa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15469)

Let me know about any other questions...

Thanks and good luck,

Kasey (Savage Messiah)

Then he replied...

Hey

I dont know much about those weld draglites. What kind of price am i
looking at for just the rears? Also, what kind of advantage would there be
over just using the stock 16" wheels?

Thanx,

I am finding that price is the universal question, I know we don't have anything for sure but is there a ballpark? And can someone put into words better than I can the advatage of the 15" wheel?

basically, a 15 inch tire will allow the use of a tire with more sidewall, which wouldn't be as stiff as a shorter sidewall'd 16.

the extra sidewall of the 15 will allow more "wrinkle" at a lower pressure which will aid in traction off the line. this is assuming he will be running slicks.

when used for drag racing smaller wheels are better because they allow for more sidewall on a drag radial or slick

the more sidewall the more bite the tire will have..more side wall = more meat of the tire to spread out when you launch and it gives the tire a bigger foot print and gives you more traction

Savage_Messiah
02-13-2006, 10:17 PM
I assume he'll be running no more than drag radials

Edit: Cool, thanks

Also, the 15" Welds will be much lighter than his stock 16" wheels.

If any of you that are on there wanna chime in that would be cool... just nothing that would get Thunder or TSP bitching at full throttle, so nothing specifically eluding to this, unless you can come up with some fancy dancy shizniz that they wouldn't complain about or see as soemone tryign to steal business from them... or however sponsors think
