they are doing lime rock again on april 8th i think; i can't go.

but better for the NJ peeps is the pocono event on may 5 and 6. i'll be doing both of these days. its the south and the east courses; both very fun.

do they allow ride alongs at these events?
i don't have a car that is built for handling currently, so i woudl go to watch, try to absorb instruction, and hopefully get a ride or two :)

only instructors can take a passenger. most of the time, they bring their students. but it happens...i've had my friends come and found them a willing instructor. its pretty sick stuff. keep in mind, completely stock cars are great for novices. nothing special needs to be done for a first timer.

i got to do road america when i had my 91 RS all set up for autocross(SM :D)
my instructor ran a dead stock 93 Z28, he was insane. one of the other instructors had a ruby ZR1, but he wasn't "pushing it".
my next car will be a return to autocross/handling/open track events.

Hey Scott Sounds like fun. I will do one open track for sure this year maybe the short course at pocono for starters. Have you heard anything about the m-club autocross season yet.

hi kev, M Club bought out the NASA autocross, so M club will have lots of autocrosses this season! we are revamping the classes too. should be fun year.

I know he had some weight out of the car, bilsteins, eibach pro-kit, and a big brake kit. I'm sure he'll add the rest later.

third gens kick ass at AX. i think sam stramo or someone else just took one to win the nationals? kevan will know. lately the 4th gens were winning, so for a 3rd to win says a lot about the platform.

but i AX'ed my 87 GTA with 350 TPI in F stock with just bilsteins and kumbo v700's and it was a hoot and competitive.

i did some update/back date weight reduction, nothing fancy. car was around 3600lbs in legal trim because i had a big cowl hood, z28 spoiler, and a dana44 rear.
my suspension was pretty simple.
Eibach Pro-Kit springs
Bilstein heavy duty front struts
Bilstein "Race" rear shocks
Baer 13inch fronts with dual piston caliper(C4 vette calipers)
Baer 12inch rears with aluminum PBR style calipers(C4 vette again)
5-spoke SS wheels with 275/40-17 Kuhmo Victoracers(that was 3 generations of tire ago, shows you the last time i autocrossed)
Edelbrock Strut Tower Brace
PST Front bushing kit
Spohn rear suspension, all rod ends :D
WS6 steering box(i used a PS cooler from a ford van, looked like a mini radiator)

the thing i always played with was sway bars. i prolly had about 10 sets on the car at different times. i finally settled on a WS6 front bar(36mm hollow) and a Suspension Techniques rear(24mm solid).
i tried both suspension techniques front bars that were available(35mm and 33mm solids), WS6 rear(24mm hollow?), and a bunch of stock GM bars from junk yards.

car handled great, turn in was amazing, and it had enough power to rotate on throttle when necessary. i could hang with cars taht were much lighter, much more powerful, and much more extensively prepared.
the only flaw i ever noticed in using a 3rd gen is the amount of over hang behind the rear tires. i caught more than one cone on tighter courses with the back bumper cover.

sam strano and pat salerno(sp?) are two of the best guys i coudl have ever hoped to deal with when setting up my car and learning to drive.
sam knows every part that is available from memory and can recomend a solid autocross set up that is still streetable(for those of us who don't believe in trailers). he actually picked my shocks for me because i was so confused, i jsut told him how i liked to dfrive and what other parts i already had and he took care of it.
pat is a maniac behind the wheel. he instructed me when the eveolution school came to philly region several years ago. he is a maniac to have in the passenger seat too, gets all riled up and will start cheering for you while you are trying to complete a lap. he is funny as hell and has some great stories. i think pat still holds teh record for heaviest car ever to win a national championship in F-stock, his old IROC was a frigging pig.
