So with the impending snow and roof replacement I decided to fill up the IROC this morning. It was on "E". As I was driving to the gas station she was in ultra-bog mode. Every time I hit the gas the car went "huh?".

She warned up and drove fine.

Just thought I would share :-)

oh how I miss the glory days of having a carbed small block with no choke. I had to sit in my car and give it a little gas to keep it running for it to even warm up, but once it was warm it was fine.

Makes you wonder how the crossram will run with 2 Holley 600 DP's with no choke. Not that I would even think of driving that setup in cold weather. A serious bog like that sounds like a sticking choke or it was so low on fuel it couldn't provide enough of a shot. You really don't want to let any car get that low on fuel. EFI cars will burn up the fuel pump and carbed cars will get crap from the bottom of the tank going through the line and clogging the filter.

I think it is more likely a sticking choke. When I got the car two years ago I cleaned the carb in place (carb cleaner with engine at 2500 RPM) and ran some tests on the choke. Most of the time it snapped when it should but occassionally it would stick. When the twins are a bit older I'll pick up a carb at a boneyard and rebuild it. I'm not a mechanic by trade -- this car is my learning toy.

After the cleaning the car ran *much* better but still occassionally bogged down when cold. She runs great when warm.

I drive 80 miloes round trip to work and can get three trips on a tank. I wasn't in the "OMG I'm gonna run out of gas" zone but closer to "E" than "1/4". The car also sat for a few weeks.

F's up the airflow into the carb. but you dont have to worry about it, your car doesnt make enough power for that to be holding it back.
