Big BIG problem

So i thought everything was fine.. i have a trans now and the car runs allright. But now when i drive the car the passenger side floor starts getting soaked with water from the bottom up. its not dripping down but seeping through. Has anyone ever encountered this?? The more i drive the worse it seems to get. if i go 2 miles it will get wet, if i go 20 miles there will be a puddle. Im scared crapless that t might be coolant, but im not sure if that is possible any help is appreciated thanx guys.

Sounds like the Heater core. when the leak, they run down from like up behind the radio into the front passenger footwell, sometimes youll see it run down the carpet, sometimes it runs under it and just shows up at the bottom. pretty common, and usually happens every 70-80k miles from what ive seen

Yea, sounds like a heater core. Does it smell sweet? Is your coolant level low?

yeah its prolly the heater core, can i put something in it to stop it or do i need a new one and are they expensive???

You can temporarily bypass it by re-routing the hoses to the heater core under the hood. Only problem with that is that you will have no heat at all.

A heater core itself pretty cheap (only paid $22 for the one I put in my grandpa's S-10), but if you pay a shop to replace it you'll prolly get slammed with labor charges.

Anyone know what book time on a third gen heater core is?

I would say at least 4-5 hours book time, it is way back there. I've done it 3 times and it stillt akes a couple of hours. It isn't hard to do yourself, just tedious because the whole dash has to come out.

Hey if i just bypass the heater core for now will i still have defog and vent?

I did the heater core in the 87 GTA i bought from Ian, took about 45min-1hour, but granted I have taken apart so many thirds gens I could probably tell you off the top of my head number of screws, screw locations, and sizes.

If you bypass it, you will have no source of heat inside the car at all, so that means no defrost, no warm vent.

I say try doing it yourself. Where in bergen co are you located, maybe id be able to swing by and give you a hand.
