Anyone know of any police auctions in NJ? I want to use my tax refund this year to get a decent daily driver and I'm thinking I want a '95 or '96 Caprice with an LT1 and 9C1 package. Any info would be nice. Thanks.

I'm not too keen on LT engines. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for? Do all the 9C1 police package cars have LT-1s or did sone get the 265 engines?

im pretty sure all 96's had LT1's in the 9C1 package but u should be able to tell from the VIN number to make sure, do a search on google or something and see if you can find a VIN break down for those cars, i knw on 3rd gens the 8th number in the VIN is the engine code....

LT1s were available in '94-'96 only for B-body cars. the 8th digit on an LT1-powered B-body (Caprice, Impala, Roadmaster, etc.)will be "P", so you can verify by VIN if it's got the good motor or not. Cast iron heads and block, 260 hp and 330 ft/lbs of tq. With the 4L60E and 3.08 gears, they are great highway cruisers and get 20+ mpg if you keep your foot off the skinny pedal.

yea i always wanted a big ass 94-96 impala ss, they only need a few mods to be trully pimped, lowered, exhaust and a nice set of rims(not neccesarily DUBS!)

i was going to sport one, but then i got in trouble with a dedicated fuel (CNG) car and i haven't been back there since. they have the "P" code vin cars there, as that was what i was after. there are some local dealers who go, bunch of scab outfits if you know what i mean, and they tend to push the price up a bit on certain cars. taxi companies go, etc.

if you check the website a coupla weeks ahead of time, it will list the proposed vehicles for auction. kind of like window shopping so you can scope out the car(s) you want to bid on. oh, and when it's cold there, it's really cold. dress warm, because there is nowhere to get in out of the cold until they open the bay doors to the garage and let everyone inside.

adesa auctions off some old cop cars, but you have to know a dealer to get in. Its not opened to the public.

I bought it in '98, and then traded it in '00 for something cheaper, because I was getting married and needed to save $$. After I turned 17 (back in '90), I spent all of my $$ on cars and then had d!ck in the bank when I needed it. :(

The auction here a few years ago sold most of the caprices for like 100 bucks (they were beaten on by the cops). They have since went to the crown vics around here.
