It is something in the compound of the rubber that allows the tire to smoke red. It also comes in blue.

I think there is a spray you can put on the tires too but I'm not sure.

nothing fun is street legal. besides, imagine the accident rates if kids started doing burnouts in color on the street...

well from what i read they are the special tires.... but the actual reason they make it red or blue is from a powder type compound in the rubber itself

BFG had some colored tread tires. I think theirs were 1st to market. I remember people being worried to colored tires & gang colors, in LA. Really.

Yeah, BFG was the original producer of them and they did become illegal for some circumstances.

The BFG Scorcher TA, I dont belive made color smoke. It was more along the lines of an appearance to match the color of the car.

The (junk ass) Kuhmo tires do have a special compound which allows the smoke to turn to whatever color, and yes I can get them at work, and no I wont order them for you.

we sold a few sets of the BFGs at my old place when they first came out.

they had alot of problems with wet weather traction because the color strip was totally smooth.

and i would steer clear of the Kuhmos.

There are only a few that are good. The ones we sell, the 716, are poor at best. Everyone says they get good ratings, but the people buying them are people who dont care about handling or traction, they just need a cheap H rated tire, and thats it.

Nothing is cooler in my job then recommending someone a tire, and them totaly loving it. Ifcan do that, I feel that I did a great job. People that just come in and ask for "the cheapest thing you got", I just dont care about them as a person or about there car. Its the people that will bitch about 300 dollars for 4 tires and alignment, are the same people that will go upstairs and drop 2500 on a 30 inch Plasma TV.

depending on the car i own, i might by the cheapest tires i could get. i had a 100 dollar pickup i bought in desparate need of tires, i wasn't going to buy tires for 5X the cost of the vehicle. damn right i got pepboy specials. but then again if i had 2500 bucks to spend on anything it would probably be to replace the whole pickup. that truck is gone, and i am driving a $500 pickup now, moving up in the world is a good feeling.

My question is, why did you need a 500 truck? Why not just stripp it, sell it for scrap, and call it a day?
I do not understand why people buy a hunk of a car, then come in to invest money into it, and just strap on whatever. Just drive around ont he rims.

Ok, so obviously you have kept this truck much longer then you thought. So you still have 20 dollar tires on a car you drive every day, a car you trust with your life in rain, snow, sleet, dry, everything.
You dont think that spending a little more for a better tire might be a good idea? EVERY DAY people tell me "oh, Im gunna trade this car in" or "im gunna get rid of this soon, I just need cheap tires."
Look, dont tell me or others things liek that. We know its ********. Dont feed us that bs line.
Sorry, mini rant. And also, when we put said POS tire on your car, dont come back in the next day, complaining that it sucks in bad weather, or that it rides like crap, or handles like crap, because guess what...it is crap. And then dont come yelling at me saying that we sell ****** stuff.
CORRECTION: You BOUGHT ****** stuff. What I was trying to sell you was the un-****** aka "the good stuff", but for some reason, you would rather put your life in the hands of 20 dollar tires then something a bit safer.

how about you pm me with some suggestions, i need tires on this truck. i bought the ****** tires for my old one. i have had this truck longer then i thought, but cant see how any new tire can be worse then the bald dryrotted ones i have been driving on.
i appreciate you giving a damn about your job, really. i am impressed you care about it as much as you do. so anyhow i would like to hear some reccomendations if you dont mind. its a 4x4 full size chevy pickup. right now i have 33x12.50r15's on it. i would like to go to 35's, but my pocket will probably disagree with me.

Well, I guess it comes down to a few things.
Good price and still a good tire is the Dunlop RVxt tire. I we used to sell a boat load of these things at work, they are great highway as well as good slight off road tires. I heard good things about wet/snow traction.
Then there is always the BF Goodrich A/T KO's which I have yet to find someone who dislikes them. They seem to last forever, they are great for traction, and have surprisingly good on road feel. Most people who buy these tires are sold on them and come back to replace the old ones with new ones, never anything else. They are usualy a little bit more over the Dunlop though.
