dropped the tank yesterday. The hardes part was getting the fuel lines disconnected. Probably because I swapped rears a year ago, so all the suspension related bolts weren't rusted up. I was only able to siphon out 5 gallons of gas too, there's probably another 5-8 in the tank. As far as rust and stuff, there isn't that much, I only have major rust on the heat shields and a few surface spots close to the wheel wells.

my fuel pump died back in november, just getting to it now. Though I've had the 255 lph walbro pump sitting at home, just didn't start on the car till this past friday. While it's out and everything dropped I'm gonna fix the rust and paint everything; then when I get it running turn it around and do the same thing to the front. Too tight of a squeeze in the garage to get the whole car up in the air lol

I have a question how did you get in and out of your car lol....Also, your dads car does he plan on keeping it?

Believe it or not the car is actually on an angle, when I had it towed there we pushed it into the garage like that. I only put it facing in so just in case it was definitely the fuel pump, I could work on it. I replaced the ignition module on the distributor before I jumped into this. I always back the car in as close to the 69 as possible, it gives me enough room to open the drivers side door and get in and out. As for the 69, my dad has received a few offers, but he's not selling it. We'll get to the restoration sometime lol

I suppose, but I doubt anyone would make an offer high enough for him to let it go. I wouldn't allow it

Ted when you siphoned the gas, where'd you do that from? Just disconnect the lines and run a hose through there? Or through the filler neck? I need to get rid of some old gas from mine but not sure how to do it.

I guess this question should go to the tech section but too convenient here.

I was going to do it from the filler neck, but when I disconnected the lines from the tank I got 5 gallons to drain out..I have to run to work now, but I'll load up the pic of which line had the fuel, the others had nothing in them. I'm not sure how it drained though, possibly pressure in the tank forced the fuel out..I don't know, but its worth a shot rather than sucking up fumes to siphon it from the filler neck lol

I don't really have any other ones of the 69, its got rot holes, rust..it needs to be totally restored. Here's the pic of the fuel lines..

The one that the fuel came out of was not the one closest to the inner wheel well but the next one away..the one with the garden hose clamp on it.

One of those is the return line, right?

Thanks a mil for the pic. Did you jack the rear to get a better angle on the tank to drain it?

Sorry to be a pest, but draining the tank is one of two things I still need to do to get the car on the road, that I'm not so sure about. The distributor (and coil) are the other things I have no experience with.

The whole ass end of the car is in the air with the rear end disconnected from the shocks and panhard bar. It would be easier to lift the rear, place jack stands under the frame rail in front of the LCA's and let the actual rear hang down, give you more room to get to the lines. I'm not exactly sure which line is the return, but one is the main line, another is something for letting pressure out (line with the black plastic piece attached to the bottom), another is a return, and another goes to the canister in the engine bay...I think, I'm not entirely positive. I imagine if you disconnect that line second furthest away from the inner wheel well (main line) a few gallons will drain out and if you stick a hose through the filler neck and blow into it, it will create pressure in the tank and force the rest of the gas out. It's worth a shot. I don't have to worry about it since my tank is out, I can just turn it upsidedown and drain the rest before I put it back up. I puit a MSD blaster coil on my car, direct replacement..it has a double prong connector. The distributor is a bit more hard, just try and mark which position it was in when you took it out. Of course you'll most likely have to mess with the timing anyway, but at least you'll be close.
