Ok, those who have been to my place have probably seen an orange engine sitting outside my garage covered with some plastic. well i got that engine for free a few months back and just never did anything with it. Its missing half the crankshaft. Tim and justin saw that. It looked like the crank broke and then was removed, not like it just blew apart. And it was already rebuilt once i believe in the 70's or 80's.

anyways...back to my point. I am starting to list more and more on ebay and i decided to throw it on to get rid of it, with like a starting bid of 10 bucks. I took a pic of the casting number and started typing up the listing. I was told it was an early 70's(around 73) block from a vette or a truck. It is a 4 bolt main though i did check that. So right before i listed it, i decided to search yahoo with "GM block casting 3932386". That block number is for a "1968-1969 350 block, 300-350hp, 4 bolt main, LT1" Block.
Also supposedly that was the block that was used for the 302 motors. What do i do now? How desireable is this engine? I will now probably take it apart and check it out and run the head casting numpers and other parts. I assume this would be wanted by guys restoring 68-69 cars? any info or advice at this point would be appreciated.

casting date is J288= so according to one site that means "Oct 28 1968"

the engine ID code on the pad in front of the passenger side head is V103IXI, but that doesnt really work out with the info i found about decoding it. Supossedly it works out like this...ie "V0101CLJ - (V = Plant, 01 = Month, 01 = Day, CLJ = Engine Suffix Code)"
so v=flint plant, 10=Oct, 3=day?...its not 31 because its clearly "IXI" not "1XI", could it be 1=Jan, 03=3rd?, so jan 3rd? this part im lost on... and with the suffix, i cant find an "IXI" i found "XI", but that says its a truck, and then the "I" before it throws me off still.

They used the "I" interchanged with "1" a lot on stampings. So the engine date would be 10/31 and the code would be XI. The XI code is for a 350/2 bbl motor from a truck, 215hp so nothing real special. Is it a 4 bolt main block? Some guys might be interested in it for the 386 casting # and then go and deck the block and restamp it.

ah so it is a truck block then, ok. i was thinking 10/31 would seem right since the block date was 10/28. Yes it is a 4bolt main block, i looked inside to make sure. I guess ill just put it on ebay with the block number and let it go from there.

Matt, for $250, i have a 87 350 block with heads and needs much less than this '69 350. its a roller block bored .040" over but just needs honing, and i was gonna re-ring and re-bearing it. It would really just need a Cam and lifter setup to be a complete longblock. I'll even throw in a 1 piece RMS flywheel.

where can I get it honed? I have a cam and lifter so hmm :mrgreen:

hmm, correct me if i'm wrong, but can't you still can use a non roller cam with non-roller lifters in a roller block? i never have but i thought it should be possible.

I do also have a full roller lifter setup for sale as well(just no cam)

I'm pretty sure that you can, but why waste a 350 roller block?

if its a 4bolt main sbc it aint nothing special. it was more for a hype thing. as for what to do with it, if its a 302, i got a set of domed pistons .030 for it. but thats my two cents
