as if you needed further proof that car salesmen are the scum of the earth, i'd like to share two tidbits that actually happened while i was working as one (yeah, i know, even more proof!):

so a guy is arguing fiercely on the price of the car. everyone knows that another word for that is "to dicker", right? so the guy is married, and my used car manager gets in a good one, "so i see you like to dicker. why don't you go pick up your wife and bring her on by and we can all dicker." *rim shot*

another guy is just a royal pain in the ass. there was a point in time when there was no such thing as a brown car, but when i sold them there was. and this guy naturally needs a car with a manual transmission. back and forth and then finally i said, "so, for the right price you'd take a stick in the brown?" *rim shot*

btw, the customers never let on that they knew they were the butt of the joke (no pun). maybe they figured it out later... who knows? they never came back looking to wring my neck. not for that kind of stuff, anyway. needless to say, customers can be the fodder for some really good jokes. now that i am on the other side of the fence, i was just remembering what it was like. i don't know of a more naturally occurring antagonism between two people who don't know each other (salesman and customer).

edit: the last car i bought (wife's liberty) took a total of 30 minutes. 15 with the salesman and 15 with f&i. you just have to know what's negotiable and what's not, and don't get stuck on what's not. i would have driven it home, but i wanted them to install leather seating.
