Get a half inch drive set and snap the fockers. Being 21 year old exhaust, its typical for them to be rusted.

:funny:
And Im sorry about today I started on the Challenger at 8am and when I went to bleed the brakes in the front I notived the bleeder screw had been broken off clean and someone tried to take it out previously. Well If you have ever had to find a part for a 33 year old car on a saturday its damn near impossible but after about 65 phone calls I fount a pair of front calipers for the car and it took 3 hours for the shop to get them. Once I got the brakes on/bled I had to test drive it. On the test drive I noticed the thing was way out of tune so I took it back and noticed the timing was set at almost 30* when its supposed to be around 10*. After I got the timing set My eyes were burning from the car running so rich so a little adjustment of the carb I was back on the road. Two miles down the road all of a sudden I just see smoke and then my steering got tight. I blew a power steering hose so that was another set back. But Around 445 it was on the road and all is good. Sorry that I couldnt be there but I had to get this car working for my dad today. If you need any help with anything PM me and if anything ill walk you through some things!

WayFast84
03-12-2006, 10:10 AM
Its ok.

Looks like next week I will need a ton of help!!! Please guys!! I need this **** done for dyno day!! I have all the parts!!

JL8Jeff
03-12-2006, 11:10 AM
I wish I could've given you a hand but I was working on my 96, my truck, my boat and doing yard work yesterday. When working on an older car you have to plan on things being rusted in place, nuts/bolts breaking and the need to hacksaw something. So you need to give yourself a good 2-4 weeks to get things done. My header install took me over a month because it was cold and I found there were parts I didn't have and decided I wanted to swap out as I was going. And now I have a header leak so I'll need to get a new gasket. Don't rush yourself just so you can take the car to dyno day. If you do something wrong or do more damage it could end up costing a lot to fix right. I've been working on cars for 20+ years and I've never dyno'd a car so take your time and don't worry about the dyno thing. The guys who want to do the dyno should be the ones helping you since you're on the list.

WayFast84
03-12-2006, 11:26 AM
thanks for the advice, I cant locate some bolts, and I cant get one bolt off cause it has a bolt in the back that I cant grab cause my tools wont fit behind it. I also need help getting the alt off, Im 60 percent positive I can do the headers my self, I just need the guidence to know that Im doing it right so I dont screw up..

deadtrend1
03-12-2006, 11:56 AM

WayFast84
03-12-2006, 11:57 AM
**** it...I give the **** up!!

deadtrend1
03-12-2006, 04:42 PM
dude, stop with this I cant ****. If i gave up and said i cant do something, my car would be sitting in my driveway with no rear end, and a motor that cant run because it had no headers on it. Mine were 10x more a bitch to do cause there is no room on the sides.

There is always a way to do it, just gotta find it. don't get discouraged, don't give up. if you get pissed, take a break, go inside watch tv and drink a pepsi. Then go back out and try again...

V
03-12-2006, 05:54 PM
Do you have a new y pipe? will the headers fit the stock y pipe? i had flow tech headerts and they sell a special y-pipe to use with them for 3rd gens. if you dont need the stock y pipe, get a sawzall and just cut it off.

Look at it this way, at least youll only be doing it once(for the most part) and its easier than ls1 headers IMO.... i did headers in my SS back in Aug, not the most fun job to do but not terriably hard, BUT now i gotta take them back off and put the manifolds back on. talk about a kick in the ass.

WayFast84
03-12-2006, 06:00 PM
I have new y pipe, I dont want to go cutting things Untill I am 100% sure I can do it, and right now Im not, If I cut into things and I couldnt do It..My car would be a waste of time and money, because their Is no way in hell I could pay a mechanic to fix it, hence why I wanted to have people come over and help me, as well as show me how to do some things, and then feed them in return or some thing...

listen, I wouldnt mind helping you out, but the way it sounds, you could have been working on it all weekend by yourself. I know you dont know much about cars yet, but you can at least start taking it apart. I didnt have my dad hold my hand every step of the way, but when I got stumped I'd ask for help. Just start taking it apart by yourself. this way if something breaks, you wont have to rush around trying to find a part last minute.

Besides, we all said we would help you out, not do it for you. I'd do it for you all by myself, but I'd charge you just like a shop would. One thing you have to learn is that things do go wrong when working on a car, but that doesnt mean you should be afraid to break a few things while wrenching. This sounds harsh, but instead of posting here about how you "give up" you should be outside taking your car apart.

:rollseye: How about you like losten up all the bolts for me then I stop the stop watch then I do the rest, when I need help you help and the clock starts again/!?

How about you do the whole thing yourself! tear into it. if you break something, its not a big deal. you're either very afraid of working on your car and messing up or you're very lazy.

I replaced the water pump on my Jeep on saturday when I got out of work. I have never done a water pump on a cherokee before, but I didnt go asking a bunch of questions on a jeep message board, I just went out there and started taking everything apart. I put the new pump on and bolted everything back together and started to fill the coolant back up when I saw it was leaking a lot! no big deal, I just took it all apart again, saw that the gasket had gotten messed up, went out and got a new gasket and put it back together.

even when things dont go as planned, its always fixable. snap a bolt off in the block or head? go buy some easy outs, get the rest of the bolt out and re-tap the hole. I'd be more than happy to help you out if you run into a problem, but if you just want someone there to do all the work for you, I'm not down for that. sorry for this little reality check, but asking other people to do that amount of work for you is really lame.

WayFast84
03-12-2006, 09:33 PM
Im not asking for people to do the whole thing for me..If I was I wouldnt have even started doing it...

Ian
03-12-2006, 09:41 PM
not to sound like a jerk, but how far did you get this weekend? did you get the exhaust dropped? did you take all the accessories off the front of the motor? drain the coolant and take the radiator out? If you really want to get this done before dyno day, you're gonna have to tear this thing down pretty fast.

WayFast84
03-12-2006, 09:43 PM

you know what you really need go spend that 31$ you got on a good ol' haynes manual and like ian said go right at it, i was afraid like you but i just started ripping **** apart and puttign it back together take alot of pictures when takign stuff apart so you have a referance to go back to if you dotn remember you learn alot on your own i still dotn know so much but ive come along way from doign it on my own and just reading articles and **** its all a learning process

How do you drain a radiater? I got like all the bolts holding the radiater on but 2..I need to jack the car up again..lol.

Ian
03-12-2006, 10:15 PM
there should be a drain on the bottom right or bottom left. if there isnt, just pull off the lower radiator hose.

Not for nothing...but installing a cam isn't really a walk in the park job. Are you planning on just slapping it in, or doing it the right way and degreeing it?
If I were you I'd stick with some basic bolt ons to get your skills up, and then worry about things like cams...

Matt, I know it can be overwhelming to work on an engine for your first time. If I were you I wouldn't of set a date for when you HAD to be done. This just puts more stress on you and makes it less enjoyable. How far are you along so far. Make sure you do ONE THING AT A TIME!!! I screwed up plenty of things by doing that. Once you take something off make sure you keep it together and kinda hook stuff back up how it was on your motor.

Also Matt, instead of freaking out about help and everything, you should of been posting your questions a while back about what you had to do, and in what order, etc. At least you know what to do now.

Sure your only 14, and new to everything, but you can do it. All you gotta do is put your mind to it. A perfect example is what I did last weekend I pulled a motor and trans out of a MG that threw a bearing. This is how far we got (keep in mind that it was not painted dull and not moving at all):

You can do ANYTHING bro, you just gotta put your mind to it. Just do one thing at a time and you'll be kosher. IMO, I would see if mama dukes can give you the money back for dyno day and expalined what happened. This way you don't feel so rushed and what not to get all the **** done.
