my friend ran his el camino last night but his et's and mph are way off.what do u guys think is wrong with this picture.
car ran 16.0-16.3's all night with mph's from 101-105
its an all motor 358
ported 882 heads(2.02 int 1.60 ex)
torker 2 manifold
holley street avenger 670
roller rockers
full headers/dual ex with super 40 flowmasters/dumps
10-1 cr
turbo 350 with shiftkit,2,400 stall (car used to be a s speed)
dont know what it has for a cam, but i do know its nothing big

then it probably stalled & he had to restart it if he had no traction problems lol...that mph is good enough for low 13's with traction.

yeah that thing should be a high 12 sec car, i just built a almost exact same motor for a budies 3rd gen and he went low 13,s high 12;s with it

hes here, now he says he had massive wheel hop and he broke the posi so ima go look at his car when i get back il post his slips
how can you have no traction problems and post time/mph like that? unless what bill said is true! lol

yeah find out what his 60' time is...its probably like 3+ seconds to have times like that

2.69 60'
he broke an upper control arm, not really broke but the hole is elongated,so he was getting off it off the line,i have no idea how he didnt relise something was wrong/broke. i just drove the car the wheel hop is so dam violent, u think the whole cars falling apart

That '60 tells the whole story.

yeah, but even if he drops that 60' a whole second, he still won't be near low 13's

Technically yes and no. Take my times for example. My third run I had a 2.02 60ft and trapped at 105MPH trap speed with a time of 13.31 . The first run I ran, my launch was just a tad slower and it added 6 tenths of a second to that time. Its all about the driver too. Theres many factors.
If he is trapping 105 MPH and only running 16's, theres something wrong. Maybe he has a very close gear ratio, like 4.56's in an T350 and has no top end speed?! Could be traction problems. Other than that Im stumped, but it definately sounds like his acceleration if hes cutting 2.6 60' times .

i was just going by the general rule - whatever you save in the first 60' gets doubled at the end

If he gets his 60' down he should have no problem getting into the 13's....He probably was getting in and out of it from the sounds of the horrific wheel hop that he was experiencing..

hes a non driving person, lol only thing he is good at is donuts and burnouts lol, im gonna fix his upper control arm tom, and drive his car at e-town on wensday to see what i can get out of it,prolly gonna be a high 13, car needs gears its got a posi with 2.73's or 3.08's cant remeber in it, so ill porlly swap in some 3:42's or 3:73's for him when i do the control arm for him.

Traction is the name of the game.....you can go 16.0 @ 150 u need the tires
project89
03-25-2006, 09:45 PM
well the biggest tire u can fit on a el caminio is a 225/60/r15 with the stock rims
even with an aftermarket rim ud be hard pressed to get a 245 tire under the car
and i quess it really isnt a traction problem, it dosent spin,it just wheel hops very violently, not a whole lot i can really do for that car besides get him some boxed control arms and poly bushings, for now im just going to repair the one upper arm and if i have time ill box his stock arms,
i have the drag shocks set to extra firm on his car, u guys think a softer setting would help out with the wheel hop?
the upper arms dont really make a big difference in the traction department. He'll need boxed lowers with poly bushings to take care of the wheel hop problem.

well the top ca is whats ****ed up the hole on it is about 2x the size its supposed to be, sometimes i wonder why i bother doing all this **** for him, everytime i fix something he either breaks something else, or ****s with what i just fixed, so i end up fixing it a second time.last time i worked on the car i adjusted his carb and timming, car ran great, next day he decides he can get it better and ****s it all up, so i had to reset everything
