Got a question. I was at the track last Friday night doing some recording of my buddy and his 05 GTO getting smacked around on the track, but I noticed I can't pick up the display lights at the traps to save my life. Just too much light glare, even for the night vision.

Is there a lens filter or something I can use to tone down the light output at the track at night so that I can get a clear shot of the display at the end of the track (I.E. Make the numbers clear and readable)??? If so, what's it called and where to get??

This is for a Sony Mini DV DCR-HC42 camcorder btw.

I have a similar (If not the same, i forget the model number) sony camera and the same problem. I have yet to find anything that works with it and it is quite obnoxious. I haven't used mine in quite some time, so I don't remember, but if there is any type of manual adjustments, you would need to close the lens a little (if it goes by it, raise the f-stop). What's happening is it's over compensating for the darkness around the boards, and letting in too much of the lights on the scoreboards.

Unfortunately, while i can tell you why its doing what its doing, i haven't played with mine enough to figure out how to remedy it. If you find out, post up.

i have the same problem i just zoom out right before it lights up and u can see it for like a split second :p better then nothing i guess lol

I have always had the same problem. No camera I've used has ever been able to show them well enough.

I was thinking that might work, or maybe a polarized filter??
