Just joined a few days ago. I've lurked for a little while and finally stopped being lazy and registered. Can't wait to attend some meets or go to the track.

And to answer the obvious question, I drive a 1986 sport coupe with an LG4 and a 700R4. The only mods are some no-name cat-back that came with the car and an open element air cleaner.

The lack of speed compared to my previous car is killing me. Does anyone here have a good idea on the costs of an LS1 swap? Just trying to get an idea if it is doable.

Welcome to the club!

LS1 swaps into 3rd gens aren't exactly cheap, however if you can do most of the work yourself it shouldn't be too bad. Check out the Hybrid section on LS1Tech.com for tons of information about the swap.

Welcome :welcome:

Yet another person from Clifton.

What does your car look like, wonder if I've seen you driving around town.

I've seen a black 86 driving around, hard top I think.

Darker Red (Victory Red I think) hard top. It's an 86 sport coupe. I live in the Lakeview section.

I sometimes see a maroon Iroc parked near Lakeview.

I also see a red sport coupe near botany village that shares a home with a brown second-gen bird.

Either of those cars members here?

Welcome to the site :)

An LS1 swap, If no corners are cut and you want everything to look nice, will run a little under 10 grand. It can be done cheaper, but it wont looks as pretty

you're gonna need the motor and trans, new motor mounts, new trans crossmember, I think a new driveshaft, new wiring harness (or have the old one modified to all hell), if you use an f-body LS1 you're gonna have to notch the crossmember or get a new K-member, you'll need new shocks and springs at least for the front of your car (LS1 will shave some weight and the nose will raise up), and then there is a ton of little stuff that you'll need or want and it all adds up pretty fast

Why would need a new DS... all 3rd and 4th gen DS's are interchangeable

well, if he has a steel DS, then he would probably want to get an aluminum DS. even if the DS isn't new, it'll be new to him

*edit*

now that I think about it again, he might need a different length DS. the LS1 motor mount location on the block is in a different location and I dont know if the conversion mounts compensate for that. that would push the drivetrain either forwards or rearwards. this is just speculation, I dont know off hand if the tail shaft of the trans will still be in the same location

I was at Rutts Hut last night with my buddy in his 85 IROC and I saw a red 86 camaro there parked in the front.

was that you or somebody else?

That wasn't me. There are two or three other red sport coupes in my area. I think I am the only one with the darker red though. I haven't been to Rutt's Hut in a long time, thanks for reminding me.

So I'm gonna give it another shot..

I saw a red 86 on the other side of 46 from Christopher Columbus Middle School in the side streets over there at about 7:30.

you?

That could have been me. Was it parked. Because there is a bright red sport coupe thats always parked over there. I drive through that area a lot though.

I saw a brown sport coupe with a custom hood scoop at a light on rt.46 right near cristopher colombus. I gave him a thumbs up and he did a burnout. Cool older guy.

Yea it was parked so I geuss it wasn't you.

I've never seen a brown sport coupe around, but you see all sorts of things on 46 over there. I have practice over at Christopher Columbus and all i hear are muscle cars, imports and bikes fly out of that light towards 21.
