i have a catch can on my TA its catching quite a bit of oil but i keep reading people deleting the pcv system completely and runnin 1 or 2 breathers on the valve covers. im thinking about goin for it but i am not sure yet some say u dont ventilate enough crankcase pressure without the pcv valve going into the intake but i cant see how a open breather wouldnt vent the pressure as needed .has anyone done this and had luck on an LS1. some opinions appreciated.

The PCV system is their in the system for a few good reasons the easiest to explain is with open to the air breathers like you are talking about the positive pressure that normally blows buy the piston rings will end up all over the top of the valve covers -with out installing extensions with baffles in them even than it will vapor onto the hood underside, is some cases ending the PCV system will cause the rear engine seal to leak as well as some gaskets, the PCV system is to have a positive effect on the crankcase pressure, better is to redirect all hot air from entering the intake system and make it a positive flow from the front of the car, than disconnect the PCV -- in a race car the PVC system is directed into the exhaust header using a one way valve and sealing the rest of the motor those with big engines will put a pump on the motor and suck the blow by from the rings out into a puke can both racing set ups have another effect they buy making neg air in the engine block they actually pull the piston rings out of the ring grooves and help seal the motor, high end race motors use a ring called a ( low tension oil ring ) without some kind of evac system the car will smoke after the gas pedal is lifted at end of run ----- hope my 2 cents helped ---- jz

I got the updated GM PCV part# 12572717 $6 or 7 bucks and GM vented cap ACD# fc219 GM# 12589430 $10 bucks and since then, during my last 2 oil changes i havent had to add any oil before my usual 3,000 mile change. usually i made it to about 2,000 miles before i had to add about a 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart , So luckily i have been about 6500 miles and i havent had to add a drop of oil to my car. And mine is a daily driver that is driven pretty hard. I don't use a catch can either though i once considered it until i had luck with the new PCV and Cap but i have heard mixed results with the Vented cap and the new Fixed orfice PCV for some people it has worked and some people it didnt i guess it's just the same as some people not burning any oil at all but for under $20 bucks i figured it wouldnt help it sure was alot cheaper than buying a catch can
What oil are you running??? have you tried a little heavier grade??

That what i have been running the last 2 oil changes except Mobile1 5w40
I dunno if switching from 5w30 helped also or not or it was a combo of the pcv, cap and 5w40 And i have been checking my throttle body and it's clean as the day i got it so far

Yeah i only switched to 5w40 because friends of mine have been using it for a while but between that and after reading on ls1tech or whatever about the Mobile 5W30 Only suppossedly being a w20 I just figured i would try 5w40 since i really didnt have anything to lose, And like i said before i got the vented cap and updated pcv for under $20 bucks so i figured that was alot cheaper than buying a catch can, so hopefully it will continue not to burn oil
