breaking in brake rotors?

put a new set of ssbc calipers and pads on and a set of summit racing cross drilled rotors on the car over winter. took the car out yesterday and did some hard braking on it just to make sure the car stopped good (i know it tells you not to but i wanted to make sure the brakes worked good) and the steering wheels pulsates. i look at my rotors at home and there were some high spots (evident of hte rotor wear where it was nice and shiny) is this normal? i called summit and the guy said that the 200 mile break in should iron it out. im just concerned since ill be racing the car next week and i dont want any issues. thanks

as far as i know, there should be no high spots on a rotor.

Definitely shouldn't be any high spots. Either make Summit take them back or pull them off and have them cut just a hair to remove the high spots.

can u get cross drilled's cut? i thought that messes up the cross drill's

called summit tech and spoke to another guy and said its prob a tad off due to the drilling of the rotors (cause of hte heat of the drilling) he said it should be ok after the 200 mile break in

drive it for 200 miles, see what happens. you can usually get the cross drilled rotors cut, some places wont do it though cause it tends to chew up the bits on the lathe

There should be no run-out on any brake rotors.And it won't go away. But likely it is a pad material build up (that is why you have a break in period you ignored) that you could clean with a roloc disc.

...said its prob a tad off due to the drilling of the rotors (cause of the heat of the drilling) he said it should be ok after the 200 mile break in.If that is true, then there is another reason to pass on drilled rotors (cracking being the 1st). But I don't buy that explaination.

Yeah, you usualy cant cut run-out if its causing that bad of a pulsation. I would contact SSBC about the rotors asap.

they're not SSBC rotors, they're Summit rotors :wink:
