Tru2Chevy and I went down to bridgeport speedway to help out teh #99 Yaple Motorsports team. it was a pretty good night overall. the track is nice and the racing is fast.
Randy got a good draw in his heat race, started 4th and the top 6 transfered straight into teh feature. randy held station in fourth from teh drop of the green until he got bottled up when another driver almost lost it. this cost randy the one spot, leaving him to finish 5th and head to his first feature on his first time competeing at bridgeport.
before the feature randy went around and collected advice from some of teh more respected crews and drivers. the resutl was some pretty big changes to the car. good thing we had plenty of time because of the URC sprint cars being a part of the program.
randy rolled out for the feature, starting 14th in the field of 24 cars. as soon as the green flag fell a problem that we had no anticipated revealed itself. as the track dried out it dusted up a lot, this became a problem as the visor on most racing helmets is not sealed. dust immediately filled randy's helmet and he was forced to make a quick decision and fall back a bit. once he got out of the pack a little he could pick up speed, but still had trouble seeing. he drove smart, stayed out of trouble, and avoided any problem to bring it home 12th.
overall a pretty good night and a good start to the points season. the only casualty of the night was 1 bolt that the threads got boogered up on while we were making adjustments. the helmet issue will be taken care of with a little weather stripping and everythign will be good to go this coming weekend.
