An Oregon man who went to a hospital complaining of a headache was found to have 12 nails embedded in his skull from a suicide attempt with a nail gun, doctors say.

 you gotta be pretty damn dumb to try and kill yourself by shooting nails into your head, that had to hurt like a bitch! i just learned not too long ago in my psych class that this dude back in like the 18 or 1900s had a 6 inch spike in his skull and he was fine but it totally changed his personality. im suprised this dude wasnt hardcore messed up after having 12 nails in his head...

Surgeons removed the nails with needle-nosed pliers and a drill

Yep, good old Phineas Gage. They said he died 11 years later, however I don't know if it had to do with the spike incident.

"The patient was later transferred to psychiatric care and stayed under court order for nearly a month before leaving against doctors' orders."
...that doesnt sound like he is fine :-D

psychology gets even better when you add all the physiological stuff in. thats why i loved taking behavioral pharmacology... it was very interesting. but research involving cutting the heads off mice injected with amphetamine is not quite as fun. i definitely wouldnt recommend that.

should have just planted one nail at the base of his skull in the back of his head. Sever the brainstem and you dont have to worry about the 11 other nails

"The nails came close to major blood vessels and the brain stem but did not pierce them. The patient was in remarkably good condition when he was transferred to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, where the nails were removed."

I wonder now if you are able to look into his right ear, and see straight through to the outside out of his left ear? lol

good condition doesnt necessarliy mean that he isn't messed up. physically he could have been good. but it seemes as if mentally that was not the case because the doctors of the psychiatric hospital didn't think he should leave. he may have joined the crazies
