Considering my record of wrecking my cars, Im going to get really good insurance on the Z28. I heard that collector car insurance not only insures the car but also everything that it has. Like paint, roll cage, engine, stuff like that. Is this true? if so do i have to be 25? what do u guys know about this??
BTW
my Trans Am needs a front bumper cover anyone have one that they are willing to sell or just want out of their posession??
thank you!

i think you've seen the hell al's gone thru to get insurance. Hagerty is the only company that will insure under 25 in nj, and you will probably have a very hard time with them if you have ANY form of tickets since you've had your license.

Collector car insurance is for cars that are not daily drivers. Hagerty made me prove I had a daily driver that was insured. My license is clean, so i don't know what issues you might have their, or the age thing. I hear some will not insure a car that is heavily modified (ie roll cage).

You best bet is to just call and ask.

The cars not old enough probably to get any kind of insurance breaks like that.

considering you got into an accident with your T/A, you most likely wont be able to get any sort of "special" insurance.

yeah, i highly doubt you will be able to get "collectors" insurance with your accident record and age. Only thing to do is shop around with regular insurance companies and see if any are willing to do an full comp and collision with agreed value. i never looked for that but its rare but maybe youll have luck, of course youll be paying out the ass for coverage and after a few years you'll probably have paid more to insure the car then its worth. just keep that in mind. Collectors insurance is cheap because they carefully screen what vehicles/drivers they accept, otherwise if they took anyone, the rates would be the same as regular insurance.

i attempted this last year with my 84 T/A

several companies same results

cant have accidents in the family- 17 year old sister plays demolision derby so im screwed

you must have a clean license

over 21- i was only 19

want nothing to do with race cars unless only used for nostalgic type racing/shows..ie can drag race on pontiac day but not regularly

everyone in your house hold must have regular insurance on a daily driver

even when my dad tried to get it on the car (my car was still registered by him) i wouldnt be able to drive it and have coverage

only upside...you can pick the value to insure it for..really cheap..

Having a car that new and you being under 25 is not a good mix. When I was looking for collectors for my '87 every company I looked at either wouldn't insure me because I was 23 at the time, or wouldn't insure the car, saying that it wasn't old enough.

I'm gonna try Hagerty, but with my mom and brother both having a few accidents on their recods, I'm not sure how easy it will be. I have zero moving violations, and no insurance claims. (knock on wood)

only upside...you can pick the value to insure it for..really cheap..Up to a point - too high & they will want appraisals. Unless you are talking liability limits. They will not go higher than your daily driver limits.

You can get collector insurance for the car, but you would probably also have to get the car registered as a collector vehicle (there was a thread on this not too long ago) which is not based on the age of the vehicle, but does severly limit your annual mileage (I think its either 2500 or 3000 per year).

You will have to prove the car is in exceptional condition and possibly make an argument as to why it is special (any v-8 f-body is special). My dad (59 years old, no kids in the house, clean record and has other vehicles as daily drivers) had no problem getting quotes in writing from at least three of the major collector insurance companies: Haggerty, Grundy, American Hobbyist all with an agreed upon value of $8,000 (blue book is like $5500) for his 1993 Z-28 hardtop with 58,000 original miles and 100% stock. Quotes ranged from $170 - $240 with varying requirements depending on the company. The more highly modified the car is and the higher the agreed upon value is, the more proof you will have to provide and more digging they will do. All of these policies will state that the car cannot be used/will not be covered in any kind of timed event, rally event, or speed competition. Most will not even write the policy if you tell them the car will be raced. Most will require the vehicle is stored in a locked garage or at the very least not parked on the street.

Bottom line call the companies, explain the situation and be honest (don't mention the roll bar and the racing you plan on doing and the 400hp shot of nitrouse you plan on using, instead just say the motor is "modified"). If you are living with other people who will have access to the vehicle and their driving records are ******, well you are probably screwed.

Good luck
Chris
