So my day started out as I wake up bright and early for my 8 AM driving test. I have to admit I was pretty nervous even though everyone was telling me its easy because it seems like I have been waiting for this day forever! All went well and I passed got my license and all.
Come home wash my car and decide to go for a little route 3 run with one of my friends considering I've never taking my car on the highway. So as soon as I get on a early 90's fox body 5.0 convertable rolls up behind me in the middle lane, than jumps over to fast lane and takes off. Now my fathers words were going through my head "don't be stupid, drive slow" but that was quickly drowned out by the sound of my exhaust  . I dipped to the slow lane and hit it, he couldn't keep up and I didn't see him till later down route 3.
Second Race, Most Important!
I'm getting off route 20 onto route 46 over by christopher columbus middle school and as I'm taking this turn I see something red coming up hard next to me in the fats lane. It was an 06 Salleen Mustang, it slows down and the passenger sticks his hand out the window and waves me on. He hits it and I dip over into the fast lane in fourth and hit it, I hit about 95 and he was only a couple cars ahead of me. We hit traffic then so both of us let off. Later down the road as he was getting of his exit I gave him a little rev, when I did that he decided to stay on and he punch it. However there was a cop getting on at the exit he was getting off. I quickly switched to the slow lane and got off the nxt exit. Next thing I know the salleen flies past me with a burgendy unmarked impala tailing it.
I haven't been that scared in the longest time cause I thought for sure he was coming after me. I think if the mustang didn't stay on he probably would have pulled me over.
So yea thats my day so far.
I'll keep you guys posted on what happens tonight

naa its cool I expected it.
I'm definately going to take it easy. I was just tempted but the run in with the cop definately scared the **** out of me.
I needed that to make me realize I'm not invinciable and that I need to take it easy till I'm more "experience".

I honestly learned my lesson, no need to bash me.
Just thought I'd share the stories for pure entertainment.

I would defenitly take it easy for a long time. Pretty soon you'll be parting this car out in the classified section and watch people walk away with parts of your baby.

yep yep agreed, I have enough of a blast just driving around with the tops off and listening to the rumble of the exhaust.
Once I become more comfortable with the car, shifting, working the clutch, etc. I'll make a trip to the track.
you guys are right though, I'm not even going to try and disagree. It was just adrenaline kicking in and the excitment of finally having the car out that got to me.
Plus it was the first time I ran across a Saleen
p.s. - whats the deal with those saleens? That thing had such a huge (and probably heavy) body kit and wing on it, not to mention the visor in the back and the things on the rear side windows.
how fast are there? hp wise and 1/4 wise?

eh yea but I mean it wasn't nearly as bad as some of the stories I read on here.
I never dipped in and out of traffic, both lasted no longer than 2 minutes, and both happened in the clear with no other cars around but me and the other. And I know that none of that makes it right but I didn't go to crazy and I did consider my surroundings.
um..quick google of 06 saleen said that has 435hp. im more then sure it would hand your stock lt1 its ass if u did race it.

smart but surroundings and traffic and that type of **** dont matter if a cop sees you. if they see that u got your liscence that day and your doing close to 100mph you can say bye bye to your liscence for awhile

exactly
I've been in yor situation before. I got pulled over 3 times in the first 6 days I had my license. On the 3rd time, I got a ticket. 58 in a 30...320 bucks and 4 points. I got off kinda easy becuase I was in a school zone, but school zone or not it was stupid.
Now for the lecture (and I dont care how many times you've heard this or if you "learned your lesson" already)
You only have 1 day of unrestricted driving experience. there are a lot of things that can happen while driving and chances are you havent experienced nearly a fourth of them. I dont care if there wasnt anyone on the road because you were on a highway, people merge onto highways all the time and suddenly there is someone in front of you while you're doing double their speed. We all know Jersey is home to some of the crappiest roads outside of PA so suppose you're racing and you hit a pothole and lose control of the car...now how much fun was your first day of driving?
You see where I'm going with this. we have enough people driving like ******** in this state, we dont need anymore. Plus I dont want to attend a funeral for a 17 year old.

Nice story but ur a DUMBASS. First day u ahve ur lisecence. Nonetheless u have that restricted BS right? So heres the line up:
Racing
Speeding
Careless
u had another person in the caqr right?
/\ Reckless... those are just some of the point tickets u'd be getting. Nice on the restricted D.L. I'm pretty sure a judge would not be taking ur D.L away for the 6 mnth rule thingy but probably a couple yrs. Anyway. Be carefull homes. Like we all said. A 17 yr old's funeral would not be fun.

i believe that there are different stages of the saleen :Dyeah they do...
nick, was it white saleen?? if it was, it might have been my friend ryan's stage 2 saleen, which is good for almost 450 hp...the stage 4 has over 500 hp!!
ps- very dumb what you did...but i do remeber that first license day feeling...

hey if you know your limits then do as you please. once you start to push the limits of driving then thats a problem...
nick i think its more of learning what a car can do then how to drive it. when i was your age i did the same thing so i cant blame ya. i just got lucky, thats all. be careful and have fun buddy
congrads btw

point well taken from everyone.
like some of you said, most of you have been there and done that when you were a new driver. And it takes something like a close run in with the police to make you wake up and realize things.
slasherbarb it was a red saleen, I have to give it to him, the thing was pretty dam quick.
thanks for the congrats and I'm looking foward to finally meeting some of you guys and putting faces to names.

next meet!! when is it?
the first day i had my license i came home from takign the test and drove to my friends house, completely forgetting my glasses at home, which im required to have for driving. it shows you just arent thinking clear on your first day of driving yourself. and then the 2nd day i had my GTA, a month after i turned 17, i floored it making a left from a stop sign, gravel and said were on the road and i fishtailed 3-4 times, almost took out a telephone pole(or it almost took me out, lol) and stopped right before i went up a high curb. that taught me a lesson real quick and I wised up quite a bit that day.

Welcome to the fbody world. So...whats up first for mods?

Yeah, Pot. Kettle. Black.
Even if the messages here weren't as understanding as you hoped, most of the clowns on this board drive stupid at least once a week. You got the point, hopefully you wont forget it.
Drive to work. Make money. Spend money for mods and track time. Live longer.
So like Al said, looking at any mods once you can stop the car long enough to put them on? :)

So far I've bolted up an slp loudmouth 1 cat-back, moroso cold air intake, jet skip shift eliminator, slp air foil, and a pro 5.0 shifter.
I had money aside for sub-frames but now that I had to buy a new windshield the subframes are being put on hold for a while.

subframes should be the first thing you do after the windshield

Yea I've heard good things about subframes so thats definately next for me.
When I get a chance I'm going to take a ride down to TTP and talk to them about it, see what they reccommend and have them weld the subframes in for me.
